Hello,

moving to Singapore in sept, I am wondering whether I bring my bicycle or not.

The company is paying for my move but I don't know how easy it is to "park" a bike when you live in a condo at 10th floor

Do condo normally have bike "garages" ?

You're welcome to use bikes on sidewalks, but there are few bike lanes as such, and the heat & humidity make it a poor choice of transport if you want to arrive at your destination not soaked in sweat.

would you recommand using a bike just to visit on week end, go to the beach etc... is it that hot ?

Can you keep the bike in a "garage" in the condo ?

Jag, a bike is not too bad to get around on. Not as comfy as an aircon car, to be sure, but all right if you don't mind sucking fumes.

Also, please note, in Singapore when it rains, it pours. You'll be drenched in mere seconds.

Oh, and make sure you bring a jacket of choice that you can wear back to front

Riding your bike to the beach is okay; there's no real beach culture here, however, no promenade or cruise strip as such. You'll have to don your inliners to have a decent cruise here.

Hi, imho, a bike as transport is probably not a good choice, as nbb and jpatokal rightly point out. However, a bike as entertainment and/or sport is definitely a good option. It's a great way to see the bits of Singapore that you normally wouldn't. For example, alongside some of the rivers/canals, off-road around Marina East/Tanjong Rhu/Kallang/Bukit Timah reserve/Bukit Batok/Changi. However, bring sun-screen, lots of water and mobile phone :!:

any good shops to recommend for 2nd-hand or old bikes?

also, for suburb riding, e.g. like at Yishun, should I get a mountain or road bike?
those parks, are they hostile to road bikes?

You can leave your bike in your condo basement, OP. There will undoubtedly be somewhere there (ours has bike stands). Otherwise, you could always park it in the maids room - it's the perfect size.

Alexandra village is a place, corner of Alexandra and Jalan Bukit Merah (close to IKEA & Queensway shopping centre).

You have a lot of shops selling second hand bikes, if you know what you're looking for you can try.

Absolutely bring your bike, the country is fairly flat and as long as you are a courteous rider you'll be fine (stay off the roads, though)
Bikes can be parked in the car parks or in front of your door, but I would advise against using it as your main form of transport to go to work - it does rain buckets, as was mentioned before.

So a fellow forumer recommended Carrefour for bikes. I'm looking for road bikes. Will it be generally cheaper at Carrefour compared to your LBS? Or samo?

I think you are talking about bicycles? I was talking about motorbikes...
