SIROCCO Bangkok

Dear folks if ever you go to Bangkok, do visit the SIROCCO restaurant at the state tower building.
It is such a beautiful restaurant with a fantastic view of Bangkok..and the jazz singer was amazing. A nice and romantic place for fine dining.

Hi alfalfa,
Completely agree, cannot help it, but when I am at the Equinox in west in stamford here in Singapore, I always have to think of the views at Sirocco in BKK...
Very impressing, very very good food.

Hi there Eric,
Well I can never forget the experience of being up there...I like drinking and standing by the bar and looking down.... what 60 storeys down wasn't it? It gives me the cold feet.
.but it was really really magical....
I would go back there again anytime...Do you know of any other places that is as beautiful as this one?

Last time I was entertaining some customers in BKK, my friend who lives there recommended the Sirocco. Unfortunately it was fully booked so his second choice was Baan Khanita (housed in a former embassy) - no nice view but a nice building & the food was really good. I would recommend.

Thats right the thing with Sirocco is it's always full. Reservation has to be mad in advance..we were lucky cause there was a cancellation that night.
Thanks for the other suggested dining place. I will try it out.
CD ... such a waste you didn't get there..but be sure to go there the next time round alright.

Half the pleasure of eating here is the attractive setting. Wood paneling, traditional prints, and copper serving pieces create just the right mood for a relaxing evening. The food is strictly Thai, and the dishes are explained well by the English-speaking waiters. The recipes have been altered a bit to appeal more to tourists, which explains the absence of Thais in the dining room. Ask for the complimentary appetizer called mieng khum (spinach wraps). The fried soft-shell crabs in a hot-and-sour sauce and the gaeng keow wan gai (green curry with chicken and Thai eggplant) are two of the better choices. Sirocco is serving international food by the way, not so much the "indigenous" thai food. But good quality, great views and service and for Thai standard high prices, but for Singapore standard on average.

I prefer just hanging out at the SkyBar. The food at Sirocco isn't all that great. You go there for the views and the ambience. A couple of tips for Sirocco:
If you show them a Citibank Gold/Platinum card, you get two glasses of sparkling wine for free.
Table no. 2 is the best for a romantic, secluded dinner

Hi All!
I will be having some overseas guest visiting me in August and would like to bring them over to Sirocco since I've heard very good reviews about the place.
Does anyone know whats the price range like?
How much would it cost per person for a decent meal (in USD)??

We went there intending just to have a drink but liked the location and decided to eat - no reservation, no problem, and it was a Saturday. I agree with Savage that the food is not great and also you are paying a premium for the view (which we were happy to do).
It can also get very hot up there, although hate to think what happens if it rains!
The singer (assuming it is still Cheryl) is a friend of a friend; she's very good although I do feel sorry for her and the band as they are way above the restaurant and don't seem to get a lot of appreciation.
Next time, I think we'll stick to the cocktails.

"The Dome" is the whole thing. Sirocco is the restaurant, Skybar is the bar, and then there's Mezzaluna and Distil on the lower floors of the same complex.
For the same experience with less crowds and (IMHO) a more romantic ambience, try Vertigo atop the Banyan Tree, which pioneered the concept of the open-air roof bar/restaurant about one year before Dome copied them. It's quite a bit smaller though, there's no live band and if you sit in the wrong place you get blasts of hot air from the aircon vents... and the restaurant is equally overpriced.
