I am interested to start a maid agency, does anyone has any idea how I can go about and is this kind of business able to make money ?

Maids are two a penny, what you need to do, is find a niche, and I'll bet their is one in high class Singapore, so you should be looking at butlers & lady's in waiting, and go upper class and get a premium.

The Charles Macpherson Academy in the USA is pricey at 10K US$ but just think what the neighbours would think in Singapore...do some research, UK maybe even cheaper, although i doubt it. You will also have to discuss with Mom on another level of service, that isn't being serviced, or maybe it is. That you will have to find out, but you want premium quality..contact the prime minister and ask him, what he would pay for a well qualified butler & lady in waiting.

I just wasted 30 minutes writing, but basically you need a niche, in the market, and it is possible to make it, There is a Charles Macpherson Academy in the US the course is 10k US$....go for upper class butlers & maids...you will have trouble with MOM, so first do your research, then get the weight of those, that need the service behind you...like the PM. explain to him you want to start catering for the elite, of Singapore, they will love it, you may even get VIP treatment! What will the neighbours think!

high class butler and maid will need high class english as well. cant have singlish when they open their mouth (but not sure if they need skills to wash the master's cars)!

This is very true, and i know at this time they maybe not allowed in, but this is a niche service if ever their was an opening, and who better to get on your side, with a bit of weight in Singapore. the PM. I would send him a letter direct, to ask him, if there is a need for the elite, I'm sure if he was interested in the Butler service & lady in waiting, he would get them from the UK.

I used to drive a general around, after being ordered too, I hated the job, although it was a cushy number, even flew his gazelle chopper, after he asked me to take the controls, I then put it into a nose dive and scared the crap out of him!

I was offered a full time position with lots of perks, but turned it down, I said I joined to be a soldier not a servant, and i wouldn't be driving him now, if i wasn't ordered to do it. He was okay, nice guy, and i wasn't disrespectful, but truthful. I was chosen because of my driving skills, more than anything, being advanced in many types and cross country too!

But I bet a bottom $ the elite here would jump at the chance of having butlers, batman, for them it's just like the good old days, when the headquarters was around Tanglin.. definitely a niche market! and maybe reasonable pay, for someone wishing to leave her Majesty's service. Now the pound is suffering! Wash the car, no chance, they run the household, local maids would still have their duties, although many Children would get proper English lessons too. (A bonus)

i don't think many trained (you know what i mean) butlers would enjoy working in singapore. nasty people. lousy living conditions. pretty damn near shitty work life!

neither do i think many singaporeans would really enjoy butling (sic? looks funny) given the nature of the job and the environment they grew up in.

i'm sure there's a really tiny segment that COULD do with such a service, but all the uber rich persons i've talked to (not personal friends of mine or anything) candidly told me there's no need to waste money on such services that can be fulfilled by a domestic house keeper.

2 of them also worried about being intimidated by such experienced staff and being unable to control them. all concluded for "open home" (read: show off) events, they'll just hire a bunch of servers instead.

i spoke to 3 wives with billionaire (only one) or XXX-millionaire husbands and maybe 5 XX-millionaire husbands - friends of my parents, and this was about 5-6 years ago.

i concluded at that time, most rich singaporeans aren't willing to splurge on that type of service so that they can remain rich in pocket and "face".

then again who knows; with people moving into st regis the uptake of such services MIGHT grow!

but i find such businesses hard to sustain (and sell); unlike lamborginis or ferraris, i can't just deal out "new models" from time to time. butlers don't job hop around too much either, i don't think.

It's just purely the fault of Singapore culture
