Can an individual work and received payment from the company with just an In-Principle Approval letter, while the Employment Pass (Q1) application is in process?

Your question does not make sense. If you have an approval in principle letter, then your application has already been approved, and thus your application is no longer "in process". You will not get an approval in principle letter unless your application has been approved.

Once you have the letter you can enter the country. If you can come in on a social vist visa, then do nothing more than come into the country as a tourist. If you must obtain a visa from your country, then you go to immigration with your approval in principle letter in order to get into the country.

Once in you go to the Ministry of Manpower with your passport, embarkation card, medical documents, and your approval letter. It takes them a few hours to stamp your passport with a re-entry visa and issue you a work permit card.

I'm already in SG on a SVP (social visit pass - extended twice). My exact situation is such that my Employment Pass hasn't been submitted by the company which offered me the job. My future employer has said that they'll do it this week. My primary concern is that the EP wouldn't arrived in time before my SVP expires in 2 weeks time. Also, I'm worried that I wouldn't be able to extend my SVP for the 3rd time. In this case, how am I supposed to wait for my Employment Pass?

In between, I have thought that the AiP Letter is something that would arrived before the EP card. This is solely my own ignorance!

Well, yes, the AIP letter arrives first, and I believe you can work on it, but it takes only a couple of hours after receipt to get the work permit. My EP AIP said I could work for 1 month before collecting my Entrepass.

mine too. allowed to work for 1 month upon the date of the AIP letter.

Yeah same here Riversandlakes, I could work from the date the In-principle letter was issued, I just had to pick up the EP within a month.

Hey Strong Eagle..you mention Entre' pass..doesn't that mean that it is an AIP for registering a business? can you seek outside employment on an Entre' pass?..how does that work???

I have applied for an Entre' pass as well..but I am still not 100% sure how it works..a lot of the rules have changed since the last time I was in Singapore

The Entrepass is very much like a regular EP in that you can only work for the company you are starting up. It is renewed after two years like the EP, then three years after that.

The Entrepass is different than an EP in that your renewal is not dependent upon the salary you are making or if your job is still needed, but rather on the performance of the company you have started.

Entrepass is not just for registering a business, it is for starting a business. You need to file a business plan with marketing plans, staffing plans, and pro forma financial statements.

..so I thought you were referring to employment with a company other than your own.

Sorry for my ignorance, what's embarkation card ?

And after obtaining a work permit card, is there any Singapore ID would be granted so we would not take our passport everyday at Singapore ?

The embarkation card is the card that contains your personal details as well as your FIN#. The card that you need to show together with your passport upon entry/exit of Singapore.
I've been bringing only that card in my wallet, as compared to more-important-than-life passport daily.

Can someone confirm if this is legally enough to identify myself?
