What is the baby's citizenship if born to a Singapore PR and a U.S. Citizen (in Singapore on a social visa)?

My wife is a Singapore PR currently living in Singapore. I am a U.S. Citizen living in Hong Kong. We are trying to decide where to have the baby.

The major concern is NS if the baby is a boy.

I've seen the answer here that baby has to be a Singapore Citizen if parent is Singapore Citizen. But what happens to our situation?

The baby usually takes the Fathers citizenship in that situation methinks. I'm a Singaporean, my husband is a US citizen, but I know if we have a baby here, it doesn't automatically become Singaporean. We can nominate to have it a US citizen.

Actually unless things have changed, any child born in Singapore to a Singaporean mother is automatically given Singaporean Citizenship. The baby is NOT automatically given US citizenship. You have to take the Singaporean Birth Cert to the US Embassy showing the US Citizen parent as the father/mother. The US Embassy will then issue a Birth Certificate for a "US Citizen Born Abroad".

This I know for a fact as I have two of them. one 16 & the other 22, both born in the Old KK Hospital. The younger will have to do NS which is something that I insist upon (red flag is up! ) And yes, I am the US Father (if you read enough of my posts you already know I am an acronism or throwback to an earlier time - not very PC ). I am a PR and my wife is a Singaporean Citizen.

Hmmm, I see. Is your wife second generation singaporean or did she become singaporean later on in life. see, for me, i was indian first when i was born, then became singaporean later. Perhaps there is a different rule?

I am a naturalised Singaporean (originally Malaysian), husband is American...our son born here was automatically granted citizenship (said so on his birth cert). So I don't think it matters if you are a first, second or third generation Singaporean.
