Singapore Expats

I don't know if this is the right forum to post. I've been staying in Sg for almost 13 years and I feel that it's time I get out and breathe the air outside of this tiny island. Not gone for good, but to further my studies elsewhere.

I've limited choices because I'm currently studying for a diploma in a local polytechnic. Will be graduating in early 2007 but I like to plan ahead. 8)

This is the list provided by the school and I know next to nothing about these universities. Need some advice on which would be a better choice to study business courses in. I wanted to go to the states but the choices given are not very attractive (can't blame anyone because i chose to get a dip first). Or are there alternatives like applying to a community college and then transferring to another uni?

Well, if you wanted to go to Australia, UTS (university of technology sydney) is good. I went there for my degree. good choices and options. I actually did a business degree there, was very happy with it.

The University of Queensland rules! I know that Singapore polytechnic students get great credit transfers for engineering - may be the same for business courses as well.

Wonder if UQ pays commissions on new admissions?

Think Curtin university of technology is good.

Can consider that. they are professionals

I would recommend the University of Sydney or University of New South Wales as their business courses are quite well known and held in high regard.

Aside from the two Sydney ones I would suggest Monash.


It might also boil down to cost of living, with Sydney and Melbourne potentially breaking the bank.

If cost is a factor, you could try the regional campuses. They're generally smaller and newer institutions. You'll have the benefit of both tuition fees and the cost of living being lower.
In addition, if you chose to immigrate to Australia, you'd get extra 'points' for spending 2 years at a regional campus.

Something you may also want to consider is the 'experience' you want. Some campuses (and even cities) are chock-a-block with Malaysians and Singaporeans. So picking a less 'popular' campus or state may help you get some very different exposure.

For the US, it's either Oregon or Arizona. Buffalo is too cold and Missouri is simply.. boring.

i did my undergrad at Uni of Qld St Lucia campus....great uni, strong in humanities, journalism, medicine and engineering type subjects. For anything business though it was generally accepted the QUT has a far better option.

I'm doing an MBA at MGSM (Macquarie Graduate School of Mgmt) and it is widely accepted that the 3 best in Australia are MGSM, AGSM and Melbourne Business School.


BTW anyone studying at Singapore MGSM? I'm moving there for work in a few weeks and transferring to complete my MBA in Singapore.

You've got quite a list of choices.

Apart from considering the costs and so forth, do make your decision base on the pace you're comfortable with. Be honest and realistic, some may find the lifestyle of a certain college, too fast paced or even too slack. Some institutions are blessed with deep and rich history, some have the reputation of churning out leaders in the business, political and science world on a regular basis. While others are known for their art, literature and so forth.

Find one that basically reflects the kind of person you are.

A good school will always have a place in your heart and is an important piece of your memory.

Days when you can look back and be proud you were a part of that institution.

Days when you feel like opening your windows and scream out to the world....

University of Arizona.

Citizen deek, Missouri is boring? Where hick town were you in? St.Louis/Kansas City/ and other larger cities are not boring. I'm hurt.

FYI--I haven't lived there long term since the 80's, so I may not know how much it has changed.
