I do not think there will be any Americans or Canadians abondon their original citizenship and take Singapore citizenship. Sinapore citizenship requires to abondon the original citizenship, so the result is:
Only attract applicants from developing countries, not developed countries.
I think this policy is not good for the economic of Singapore, they had better to change this policy, allow dual citizenship, especially for some countries.

I guess the govt has to take into consideration the NS into the equation for dual citizenship would complicates matter. An interesting commonality among the developed countries is that developed countries accept dual citizneship. Maybe when Spore abandoned the NS, dual citizenship would then be a reality but possibility is pretty slim as Spore need NS to bolster its defence among the uncertain giants in the region.

Singapore
does allow dual citizenship, I know Singaporeans with both Dutch and Singapore citizenship actually...
If they'd offer me Singapore citizenship (PR now here), I'd take it....

In your case, I believe, they would require you to give up your Dutch one - isn't it only by birth that one can have dual here?

To my knowledge not even by birth can one have dual citizenship here. Officially I mean. Correct me if I am wrong.

No adults are allowed dual-citizenship in Singapore.
Minor citizens are allowed dual-citizenship until 21 and must choose their citizenship before the 22nd birthday.
