Singapore Expats

Last month, I booked a flight from Singapore to Bangkok on Jetstar Asia. Because I had to travel urgently, I did not use full service airline, being Thai Airways, as they require paper tickets.

I was unsure of which flight I was returning on (within one week of outgoing flight) so I booked it one-way. Imagine the surprise I was in when I went to the check-in counter. They refused me boarding unless i agreed to buy their return flight or from other airlines. It was less than an hour from the flight closing time of 40 mins and I could not reach a travel agent at that time of the morning. I did not purchase their return ticket as the fare was too high for the flexible return ticket.

They have now refused to refund the fare I paid. Jetstar Asia insists that we must produce return tickets for Thailand. The Thai Embassy in Singapore have confirmed that there is NO such requirement for Australian citizens. Nor is it stated so in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thailand, website:

I think most of us would be so wise to just book a return ticket ahead...

Never been to Thailand, but perhaps it's a misunderstanding, and your case just happened to fall in between the cracks

Later on that same day I went to a travel agent to purchase a return ticket on Thai Airways. Thai Airways allows flight changes without charges.

Jetstar Asia charges for flight changes not less than 24 hours. Less than 24 hours changes are not allowed n the fare will be forfeited.

Eric, what happened was I wanted to travel on the 9:20am Jetstar flight. TG has flights around 8 or 10am. However, given that they require paper tickets and travel agents open around 10am, I could not take the TG flights if I wanted to arrive Bangkok early. I ended up taking the TG flight at 1515.

Sound like someone at JetStar Asia was having a bad dayat your expense!! We flew out with them to Thailand on Xmas Eve and didnt have a return flight to show, weren't asked for one either.....

Jetstar Asia has apologised to me 2 weeks ago and promised it won't happen to anyone in future as they have sorted out this matter.
