It can get 'lost' in your eyes when you open up, and you can get infection. There was a Taiwanese lady who slept with it (apparently few hours), woke up and needed a major eye operation for eye infection (taking out the eyeballs).
So my advice, better not.

Erm, they could easily get stuck onto your eye, and then comes the painful task of "flushing" them out!!! I wear contacts quite a bit, but I refuse to wear them when I know I'm going to be sleeping. I've had a bad experience in the past, didn't lead to any operations or anything, but it was very difficult to get the said contact out of my eyes without the need of utilising my entire bottle of contact lense solution! They get dry easily.
My advice, stick to glasses on the trip. That's what I'm doing. Flying for 15 hours, definitely using glasses

I always fall asleep with mine in (usually after a night out) and its not great but i doubt you will have to have your eyeballs removed!

Having said that if you know you are going to sleep in them better wear glasses.

It depends on your body. Whether your eyes are moist enough for lens to stay there for a long time. Try not to sleep for more than 5 hours.
That's very bad for your cornea if the lens stuck hard to it.
Drink more water to hydrate yourselves.
Again it depend on your anatomy of your lids and the angle rest themselves when they close. Mine happened to be those "half close" sort, i can't fully close my eyes when i'm asleep. Thus, my eyes are half closed and it can withstand some hours 3 at the most.

If you are worried, why dont you wear glasses just for the tour. My contact len once "lost" and it was so painful when i try to search for it. So my advised is wear glasses if you wanna to travel..
