OCBC said no.
DBS request a reference letter from an existing a/c holder.

fx8fx,

I have heard it can be done but I've not met anybody who ever successfully did it. As you have found out, most banks will not entertain it. You might try the international banks like HSBC, BoA, Citibank, ABN-Amro or such. They may require a fixed deposit or some other form of security. There have been cases of fraud in the past and if you are not located within the Republic they would have slim chance of prosecution.

SMS has a point there.

I think you'd have better luck with international banks.

But do give StanChart a go as well....

UOB will open an account with a letter of introduction from a current account holder. I know this to be fact. I did it for another fellow. I think you will find this the case at almost any bank.
