Anyone has experience with marble cleaning, grinding and polishing?
We just moved into a 20 year olds condo. It is great, except the bathroom marble walls have brownish stains.
The estate agent says there is nothing you can do about it, because marble is porous, and the stain is inside.
It does bother me. Any tips on how to remove the marble stains?

Removing Stains
For rust stains, you can remove superficial stains with vigorous scrubbing using a soft cloth and a non-abrasive mild detergent. If this does not remove the stain, try an application of naval jelly or other rust remover following the manufacturer's directions for use.

For other stains, try a commercial marble polish first. If this does not work or is unavailable, then you should try the poultice method.

You need to use the appropriate solvent:

soot stains baking powder mixed with distilled water
oily stains white spirit or acetone (some types of nail varnish remover contain acetone)
organic stains eg wine 6% solution of hydrogen peroxide or ammonia

Use a white absorbent material such as untreated flour, white tissue, or white powdered chalk. Mix into it the solvent.
Form a paste with the consistency of thick cream.
Moisten the area of the stain and the area surrounding the stain with the same solvent used to make the paste.
Apply the poultice to the stained area and the area surrounding the stain using a wood or plastic spatula to a thickness of one centimetre.
Tape a plastic covering over the poultice so that it forms an air-tight seal.
Allow the poultice to set for 48 hours.
Remove the plastic and moisten the poultice with cool, clean water.
Carefully remove the poultice with a plastic or wood spatula and rinse the area with water. Dry with a soft cloth.
When the water spotting has disappeared, check to see if the stain has been removed. If it is still visible, apply a second poultice.

I would like to try the poulice method, but, I am not sure what sort of stains would be in the bathroom.

I should try the marble polish first and see if it makes any different.

Anyone has experience with the professional marble cleaner?
I have seen ads on Straits Times.
I heard they are costly. Would it make much difference?

(1)Bring a chisel to the stain,

(2)then drink till the stain, the hole on the floor and all those marble bits go away


But honestly, if you want to grind that patch away, it would involve grinding the WHOLE floor of the WHOLE apartment. If not, you would get a shallow swimming pool of sorts. Moreover if would be interesting to see how deep the stain has penetrated the marble.......The deeper the stain, the more they grind, overall.

Then there is always that shoddy workmanship to contend with.
