1. Does your laptop have wireless?
2. If yes, you can get a Linksys Home Wireless Router for about 80 SGD. They're pretty good. Be aware though that the range is only about 30 meters.
3. If you're trying to get your laptop to be able to connect to wi-fi spots in coffee shops, etc, you will need a PCMCIA Wireless Network Adaptor card. Linksys, Netgear and D-Link make good ones, and thet sell for 50-55 SGD. Good places to get them are Funan and Sim Lim.
But of course, you will only need to buy a network adaptor card if your laptop does not have wifi built in. What is the exact model of the laptop?

That's presumptious considering we still don't know if she is looking for a laptop wirelass adaptor or a home wireless router.

Have you configured your router?
Have you done anything like this?
1. Open your web browser and go to
http://192.168.1.1/ which should be the LAN address of your Linksys router. Or if that does not work,
read the documentation that came with your router in order to discover its address
2. Enter the login and password for your router. The default login is blank and the password is "admin" (yes, not the other way around)
In the setup you should be able to point your router to your ISP & enter login id & password

Hi Baron Greenback,
Thank you for your tips. Done!
I need to go to the Linksys website to learn how to get the info (DNS, physical address.....) for the set up.
