hi all..

i'm trying to get a foundation, preferably powder, but not sure whats a good brand. any recommendations? if possible not too expensive. i have oily skin btw.

Hi Cleopatra,

Powder foundation's not very good for oily skin and I know because I have oily skin myself. It just gets the skin oilier and more clogged up. Why not try liquid foundation? If you're worried about cosmetics on your skin I suggest you get a makeup base to protect it from anything you're applying on your face.
For liquid foundation, Shu Uemura has a good range, so does Makeup Forever (Scotts S.C. Level 1)
Or even Mac will do...

I know this is very stupid questions..but i never use foundation before..and would like to start for some dinner or special function
how is the step by step using foundation, mosturizer, based, loose powder, etc? think it's too much step and get quite confuse..

is based function is to protect the skin? must it be apply before or after mosturizer?

Hi cuttypie,

is your moisturizer part of your normal skin care? The base goes after the moisturizer so...
1) Moisturizer (provide moisture)
2) Makeup base (give protection)
3) Foundation (cover up blemishes)
4) Loose powder (touch up, set the makeup to prevent it from smudging)

ooh, hang on a minute - make-up base? What's that? We never had that in my day........unless you were a New Romantic of course and then I think you just used white face paint!

Nowadays I just use that revlon stuff for 'mature' skin....the one Julianne Moore and Susan Sarandon advertise.

I've never used a makeup base either. Does it help set the foundation better and offer more coverage as opposed to just using the foundation alone?

Do yourselves a favour - go to one of the more well known brands of make-up (Clinque, Lancome, Estee Lauder, MAC, Clairns etc) and just ask one of the consultants for a consultation/recommendation. They are paid to do this for a living and they are the masters at matching colours, types and the right blend for your skin type.

I wear Clinique and Stila and they are excellent. Stila is fantastic and there's a guy who works on the counter and he's brilliant - he works at Metro in Paragon. You will probably have to buy something or they may get a bit angry with you if you keep wasting their time.

You won't get the right match/blend for your skin type on a forum.

One key piece of advice is listen to your gut - some of the makeup counter staff are drongos and have zip idea of their products. If they are super-twits just tell them "thanks but NO thanks".

Good luck in your quest - shopping for makeup is the best bit!

Powder foundations aint suitable for oily skin? But there're many threads i've read, it says powder foundations are more suitable for oily skin =\ Anyway, does tinted moisturizer acts as a makeup base & moisturizer ? Im kinda blurred bout it

please get only from the departmental cosmetic counters.

but anyway, it all depends on how you apply it onto your skin

The best foundation I have been using for years is Tinted Moisturizer which cost only $48.00. It is natural, matt and not cakey at all. Try It and I am sure you will like it.
