Singapore Expats

My husband and I are moving back to Singapore and I noticed that the PR forms mention wife, not spouse...... is it harder for men married to Singapore citizens to get PR? Does anyone know what the requirements are...I couldn't find any info online.... I really don't want to move back and then be denied and have to move again. The country we're in doesn't have a mission so if we wanted to apply for PR while we are here we would have to do in the closest mission which is in Paris. Does anyone know what the requirements are so we know what we're getting into?

You are right that the forms are prepared for wives to apply for PR but a husband can do it also.

The evaluation is somewhat black box; but it states somewhere that you need to provide evidence that you can support yourselves and contribute to the society. In practice I understand that this means that you have degrees and work experience that would make it likely for you to find jobs in Singapore. In order to proof this, you need:
• copies of your diplomas (from both of you); the more the better.
• copies of your salary slips for 6 months I think (from both of you)
• copies of you tax declarations for 3 years (to prove that you're an honest tax payer)
• testimony from your husband’s employer would not do any harm (the more you can have proof that your husband has some useful experience that is not easily available in Singapore the better chances he would have)

Anyway it is a case by case evaluation.

Just out of curiosity where are you staying, if Paris is the closest Singapore Mission? Spain?

My husband does freelance web design so his pay is not consistent and he doesn't have an employer .... do they make concessions for that or are they going to deny him? We are going to be starting our own company in Singapore so how does that play into the application process? Will we be interviewed or is it just a written application? Thanks for the help!

It's case by case evaluation so difficult to say; but if you've been living in Sweden I'm sure you can have evidence of paid taxes even if he works as a freelancer.

If you apply via an embassy; it is just written application; you will probably go through it with somebody in the embassy; but they do not decide anything there.

Wouldn't it be closer to go to the embassy in London, Berlin or Brussels from Sweden? Not that I wouldn't consider Paris a nicer city to visit the other ones.

As you are going to make a trip to apply, make sure that you have all the originals (and translations if for example your marriage certificate is in Swedish) of the attachements with you; they can then make certified copies at the embassy.

Thanks, yes i think we're just going to do it when get to Singapore. Our marriage cert is in English so no worries there. Not sure if they need medical records or anything, do you know? alot of countries require that but then those countries also pay for health care so i'm not sure if we need to get anything specific in that regard. I wish they would just state what is required on the website so we can be prepared . Thanks for your help, its much appreciated .

Medical check with chest x-ray and HIV-test is needed but only after the application is approved.

I am a Singapore living in London and my husband is a Brit. We intend to move back to Singapore ASAP and I have consulted the Singapore High Commissioner for advice.

They said that should we decide to move back to settle down, they could expediate our application for my husband's PR. Hence, we would get the confirmation within a month. My husband would then have to move to SG within 2 months.

THey didn't say anything about employment in Singapore.

I think it is best if you call the nearest Singapore HC or email them for advice. They are extremely prompt. They often called me back when they received my emails.
