I know car's are very expensive in Singapore but if I have to pay £5k for some suzuki swift 1990 then hey I have to. I have a 2/3 year old and another on the way so may need one to get the 2/3 year old to school etc. The questions are
How easy is it to get insurance and do they accept no claims from the UK?
How expensive is insurance if I'm just going for a small put put 1 litre swift etc?
Many thanks

Yes I believe insurance companies here do except no claims from the UK.
I just got Insurance last week for a car, (I am still trying to get my no claims bonus from the UK) if I get this I am told I will receive a discount.
F.Y.I I got a 2 yr old 2.0 Turbo car and I pay 2300 sing for the year, which will obviouslly be reduced once I get my No claims, (I am told by up to 60%, as i have 12 years no claims from UK) it looks to me as if they are in comparrison with UK prices for Insurance)
Good Luck and Happy car HUnting
p.s If you buy from a second hand dealer here they will sort our eveything for you.
p.p.s go for the G.TI Swift, had one whn I was 17 so much fun!!!!!

Patrick,
There is a great website to look for buying a car here
www.singaporecarsonline.com
There a loads of small jap cars (swifts an all) there to look at around your price range.
Buying a car here was easy enough, I went through a dealer and he sorted out all the transfers from the LTA etc etc and the Insurance. Like the UK I am sure there are dodgers about, but for my first time experience I felt it best to go through a dealer. (saved me a hell of a lot of work)

Hi,
You need to obtain a NCD letter from your previous insurance in UK. The NCD letter has to state your NCD % in UK and states the driving period when you are accident-free. This is a standard letter recognise by local insurance company.
However, you have to try your luck with few of the local insurance company as NOT ALL will recognise it and convert it accordingly.
In Singapore, you need to have clean records for 5 years and you will obtain the maximum of 50% NCD on your sixth year renewal. The NCD will start from 0% for the first year and increase by 10% upon renewal if there's no claim.
Feel free to contact me for any queries you have on the car insurance. Great weekend.
Thanks and best regards
