i have a friend that is really interested in joining SIA cabin crew. however, she has like 3 scars on her face. one across her head, one on her eyebrow and another below her chin. the ones on her eyebrow and chin are not that obvious but the one on her head can be covered with fringe. do you think she can pull through?
besides her flaws, she's extroverted and has a great personality. she's quite a looker too.

if the scars are so obvious , shldnt be a problem but then its still depend on the interviewers.

They dun even accept scar on the hands. But no harm giving it a try! ur frd might get in? I think as lomng as the scars can be consealed without a trace, then should not be a worry to her.

As unkind as it certainly is don't let your friend get her hopes up. Not only does the application form ask if the applicant has any blemishes the 'skin-test' is done by beauticians from Lancome Cosmetics who throw people out for the least 'imperfection', even lifting the girls hair to view their neckline.

My personal view is sort of practice belongs in the dark ages and is banned by law in the UK but you are in Singapore where things are different.

Sorry to be so discouraging but your friend sounds the sort to be able to find a decent job elsewhere possibly even a ground job with the airline.

SIA is very particular about scars and marks not covered by the uniform, face especially. Trust me, ive been through the interviews and the lancome beautician together with sia staff will actually make you lift up your fringe to check on visible marks or scars, sad to say but the whole process does includes alot of scrutinising.

And in this uniform fitting round, candidates are suppose to tie up their hair and remove watches and necklaces, so nothing can be hidden. I'm sorry to say that, but your friend could try thou. It all depends on a little luck too! =)

Do they check their teeth as well? I seen some SIA crew dont have straight teeth.

well, she's seriously into the job. i guess she'd be kindda upset about not getting in. I've seen stewardess not THAT pretty and making it through and i've heard nasty comments about the interviewers being biased. is that true?
i've got an aunt that was an ex stewardess but quit due to her child and her husband has been a steward for more than 8 years. He holds quite a high position in the cabin crew. probably the supervisor or something. could he help in getting her into the job?

A beautiful graceful smile often means beautiful set of teeth too. But beauty doesnt mean that it has to be really straight, i don't have a perfect set of teeth either. Nobody has (unless she/he used to wear braces), but just make sure that teeth are not STAINED, or really mad crooked.

SIA will not check your teeth thoroughly like how they do so for skin check, BUT always remember that you're supposed to smile alot, so they can tell easily.

Although i don't remember the beautician staring at my teeth, it is still the best to keep a healthy set of gums and teeth, for hygiene purposes and other frontline opportunites. AND the medical checkup! The doctor do ask for you to show him your teeth!

I'm not too sure if they are of help too cause that's what i used to hear from others as well. That it will be easier if there's recommendation from cabin crew itself, but i wonder how ancient this practice is!

Personally, i dont think it is a good idea to get help. Interviewers might find no sincerity in the candidate, or to make things worst toughen the interview process to see if she really has got the potential!

Get her to do it on her own, she'll reap what she sow and get the satisfaction of it!

just my two cents worth, serious scars or scars that are noticable upon first look, the interviewers are pretty particular on that

No harm trying... I think it really depends on luck. Sometimes if they like your face they'll put you through even if you have visible scars(of coz not very terrible kind)... But if they don't like your face, small little flaws they will penalise you .

A steward is a steward, they function like stewardesses. They take no part in interviews - ever. 8 years in the airlines does not make them interviewers - unless he was a Cabin Crew Executive (those with degree have what we call "express" promotion). Interviews are done by middle/senior management eg. trainers, cabin crew manager

Unless Daddy is the one conducting the interview, I really doubt that anyone can "help" in getting hired.
