Hi,
We're moving to Singapore next month indefinitely. We hope to live on the East Coast in a condo. Just wonderifng if most apartments come with whitegoods? Or is it likely that we will need to bring our washing machine, which is a top loader?

Yes, nearly all rental apartments come with white goods. And the costs of shipping your washing machine would probably outweight the price of buying a new one anyway...

if you bring your washer/dryer then you need to be handy. you'll need to replace the plug. you also need to figure out the size of your washer/dryer vs the size of your new apartment in singapore. and yes, shipping won't be worth it.

We moved over from Sydney in February and we were in two minds whether to bring our new top loader with us or not.

If a company is paying for your furniture transportation...yes bring it.

Yes, most condo's come with white goods, but usually you will find an older model front load. I hate front loaders...they take too long.

We decided to bring ours and I am so glad we did. No need to change a plug. Just bring a bunch of power boards with you and adapters are everywhere...$6.00

very strange! i thought people hate top load because it messes up the clothes! i guess i'm wrong!

..er, how do they mess up clothes? What does that mean? How does a washing machine mess up clothes?

Having used both over long periods I would say that they are pretty even but I agree with ANZ...front loaders are very time consuming but they do wash more thoroughly.

As for initial enquiry, well, changing the plug is a doddle (which you should do for an appliance such as a washing machine), your main problem will be where to put it as there will very likely be one there already (in most cases a front loader). If you love your top loader bring it with you.

Front loaders are easier on your clothes because they don't require an agitator like a top loader. Additionally, front loaders use a lot less water and get your clothes cleaner.

It's funny, top loaders have been the norm in North America and only in the last few years have front loaders become an option.

We paid for our own moving and brought our own washer & dryer and am still glad we did. I have seen what others have and they seem to be small & old. We have 10 kg machines and I don't spend all day doing laundry with a family of 5. The movers usually help install the machine as far as wiring goes.
