the men's antics thread made me think about how differently women and men react to many things. the following are tongue in cheek but i do think we interpret the world differently for the most part.
she says: "we need to talk"
she thinks: "it's been a while since we had a heart-to-heart and i want to feel that we are communicating at a deeper level because you are my soulmate and best friends can talk about anything under the sun."
he thinks: "uh oh, i'm in trouble."
she says: "you don't bring me flowers anymore"
she thinks: "i need to know that you think of me often and i don't care if it's flowers or a card or a call from your office or a note on my pillow in the morning. anything that tells me you were thinking of me will make my day. please give me something, anything, even a cheap two-cent candy, which i can hold in my hand and so feel your love for me."
he thinks: "uh oh, i'm in trouble."
she says: "mary's husband just bought her a new convertible"
she thinks: "i know we can't afford a new car and i'm not asking for one but it's hard to sit and listen to mary going on and on about how good her husband is to her. i just need you to do something for me and it doesn't have to be expensive but if i could only tell my friends that you massage my feet at the end of the day or rub my shoulders or anything like that, which doesn't cost a lot but shows that you love me enough to take the trouble to make me happy. anyone can buy a stupid thing like a car, but how i wish i could tell them how much you love me too."
he thinks: "damn mary's husband. now i'm in trouble."
she says: "honey i love you so much"
she thinks: "i can't believe you actually washed the dishes / laid the table / cleared the table / drew the blinds / took out the trash tonight. when you help out around the house i feel that you care about my workload and show me you love me by your actions. and by showing my appreciation i hope you realise how much it means to me and that you will continue to wash the dishes / lay the table / clear the table / draw the blinds / take out the trash in future."
he thinks: "gee, i might get some tonight".
he says: "wanna watch a movie tonight?"
she thinks: "wow, a night out. how romantic. maybe we can have dinner at a nice restaurant before the movie and have a good heart to heart talk. and i'm sure he'll want to hold my hand during the movie and it'll be so nice to feel young and in love again. and who knows, we may even take a walk after the movie and talk about it and what we thought of the story and how we felt when the hero risked his life for his sweetheart. yes, it'll be a great night and he's so thoughtful for wanting to take me out. it's hard for him to say so in so many words but i know he loves me and this is his way of showing it."
