Singapore Expats

Hi

Does anyone have any good recommendations for an Ob/Gyn who is used to dealing with expats? I am currently seeing someone in Mount E but would like to shop around before making my decision. Also what are the best hosptials to deliver in?

mount Elizabeth conseder to be one of the best hospitals in Singapore. when i was pregnant i went to Dr. Chuw but cant recommend on him since he is quite old and heard that he is unpatient with deliverys.....
i didnt delivary in Singapore since i had to leave then but heard just good stories specialy on Mount Eliz.

I am an expat and just delivered at Mount Elizabeth one month ago. The care I received was very good and the nursing staff was exceptional. I can't say enough about them. I would choose that hospital again without question.

My doctor is Dr. Loh (Foo Hoe) at Mount Elizabeth Medical Centre, #14-06. He was great, especially during the delivery. He is mild-mannered, but really took charge during the delivery with everything that was going on (many nurses, pediatrician, etc). He stopped in often throughout the day while I was in labor, which I think is rare among doctors. Of course, it helps that his office was in the same building. His nurses are very attentive as well, making office visits more pleasant. If I had any problems, they would call me regularly to check on me.

Funny in that I had also consulted with Dr. Chew (as mentioned above) when I first got to Singapore (I was about 26 weeks pregnant at the time). I did find him to be quite old and his office wasn't very nice at all, although he does have 3-D ultrasound equipment. It's neat to see your baby in 3-D, but unecessary in my view. Plus, he only accepts cash, which is strange to me.

i agree about Chew.... the problem with the 3D is that he use it every visit - every month from the 6 or 7 month.... dono how good it is.

Hi Victoria.You definitely have to consider the location since it involves a delivery. The hospital you pick has to be close enough for you to go to,once the time comes.

I personally recommend Dr Anna, A senior Gynae in NUH. Lots of expats do go to her and I have had my 2 boys delivered thru her without any problems. You may want to give her a try.

Honestly speaking I am so impressed by her that I had some other surgery done through her and also ,my mum in law ,who had polyps, flew in to Singapore just to do a minor surgery from her.

Whatever it is , do make a good consideration as its still better to stick to a Gynae for long ,that you will be comfortable with.

For my son, I went to see Dr Lee I Wuen, at Raffles Hospital. A very good & nice doc, I'd say...

I have also heard great things about Thompson Medical Centre - especially DR TC Cheung - any thoughts???

I had a scan done by him last month and he was really good.

I go to Dr Madeleine Tan at TMC and she seems pretty good as well. The hospital seems very baby-focused and I've heard they are quite cutting edge.

Did you mean TC Chang at TMC? Yes he is good. He is fairly flexible and willing to support women who may want a drug free birth. Happy for women to be off the bed and active etc, if this is what you are looking for. Equally happy for women who may not want that.

There is also Paul Tseng. He is also at TMC and brilliant as well.

Thomson Medical Centre is great. Unfortunately their labour rooms have no natural light and they only have one room with a tub in it. Others have showers only.
The staff in L&D are wonderful as well.

Perhaps you can think about what type of experience you are after, then go from there. There are two different kinds of care here in Singapore.
Active management and expectant management. Both are equally important and neither one is right or wrong - just different.
Active management OB's tend to have higher induction rates, high c-section rates, do routine testing and scans and before I get flamed for saying this , this is great if this is what you want. However there are many women out there who want a more expectant approach. That is no scans, testing, go into labour spontaneously, active birth etc.

An active management OB will do things routinely on the "what if" chance that there is a problem in the hope of preventing it where expectant management OB's will take more of a "lets wait and see" approach.

Always a great idea to meet a couple of OB's. You will find one that suits your needs.

I had a wee girl at Mt E.

Pritam Singh was fab, fab,fab....

His bedside manner may come across ass a bit brisk but he is vv kind and professional and i dont want my gyn to be my pal.
I want a specialist!!!

Probaly found your gynae/ob already but if anyone else is interested, Dr Ho HK at Mt Alvernia is excellent.

I would recommend Dr Paul Tseng from TMC. I know a lot of expats go to him.

Thank you everone for your advice! I have now narrowed it down to one Gynae at Mt E and one at TMC. They are both great so hopefully I will be in safe hands.
