My OS finally crashed today due to some corruption. Now my Norton antivurs has expire and I have always been told to buy the new one but I dont see the point in wasting money. As I heard its above $50..anyone has any idea where I can borrow this OR get some anti virus thing loaded up to my pc.

Thanks a zillion! :)

If you manage to get back up to speed without too much damage or even if you have to do a reformat, it would be good to get AVG as it is free and rather good. Of my four PC's at home I've got Norton on one, McAfee on one and AVG on the other two. Haven't had a problem with any of them except the Norton and McAfee cost money.

AVG Antivirus

I hate Norton... terrible customer service... slows up the PC. SMS is right... McAffee or a freebee is a better choice.

Sorry, I didn't gave the direct link coz the version number is changing so often ...
Anyway, clic the first link (AVG 7.1 for workstation, for windows).
Should be ok after: normal install procedure: download, clic install, clic Next Next Next Next ... OK Finish!
Enjoy!
is it really possible to enjoy an antivirus !!!?? :)

Too true I have Norton Internet security and it does all you mention and is a pain when re-formatting since if you install it before some programs it prevents them from being installed. According some ISP's it can affect your Internet connection too.

I second the gripe that Norton Internet Security and Norton Antivirus (and all in Norton Systemworks) are dingy. I used to have them and it did slowdown a lot my system. When I uninstall them it was all okay again.

I never used Norton anymore. Now I use McAfee and AVG on my desktop and laptop and both runs well (McAfee is a bit slow on startup but then it didn't affect performances afterwards). Never looked back for Norton.

chixchix, glad I could be of service.

DWK, The only thing I'm waiting for is my subscription to expire with Norton and I'll be on AVG as well. It's a principle thing! Actually, doesn't seem to bad a drag on my notebook but maybe its because I went from an 800 mhz notebook to a 2.0 Ghz notebook in one jump! Everything seems fast!

That may or may not have something to do with the way you installed it, what OS are you using?

Sounds like you have a failing graphics card (judging by the beeps on bootup).

It doesn't sound like an OS problem, but rather something with the hardware. Do you have a branded PC, or is it one from Sim Lim?
