Finding OBGYN care late in pregnancy?

Hi
I am 20 weeks pregnant and won't be living in Singapore until I am 30 weeks. At what point is it too late to book a good OBGYN?
I prefer to wait until we do a familiarisation trip before booking someone but don't know when that will be.
What is the fallback, a public hospital? I guess they can't turn you away if you are in labour!
My baby is due at the end of February, anything special on over there at that time of year that may affect availability?

Hi TM,
Congrats on your pregnancy and an "almost" welcome to Singapore!
Alot would depend on what you are looking for in terms of birthing preferences.
Singapore has pretty good healthcare and you shouldn't have a problem getting obstetric care late in pregnancy. Just make sure you bring your records up with you.

Hi,
I was 21 weeks pregnant when I arrived in Singapore (I am now 30 weeks).
I was recommended to Paul Tseng, an obstretician based at Thomson Medical centre but also delivers at a number of other hospitals. In case you want it, the phone number for his clinic is (65) 6254 2878. I called in advance to make my appointments. Having now arrived in Singapore, I have found that many expats see Dr Tseng. My impression so far is that he is gentle, practical and very calm. I feel very at ease with him. Thomson Medical Centre is renowned for 'allowing' expats to have the birth experience they want, no strict regulations etc which you have to adhere to.

Sydney Mum is right....
Paul is great and pretty much goes with what the mum wants. He has the "if it ain't broke, then why fix it" attittude when it comes to pregnancy and birth.
If what Sydney Mum suggests is what you are looking for then Paul & TMC may be a good match for you.

The big festival in Feb 2007 is Chinese New Year the public holidays falls on 18(Sun),19(Mon), 20 (Tue). Traditionally businesses close for 7 days or more, though usually doctors close for may be just 3-4 days. Just something you may have to check with your doctor.
If you are thinking of getting a confinement nanny, it may not be easy because they may be on holiday for a longer period, unless you book in advance/pay higer rate.
