Singapore Expats

I am Canadian but grew up in Singapore. It's been 8 years since I returned to Canada and have since completed Uni and gotten married. However, I really miss Singapore and am thinking about trying out working life there. I know that a job will bring my husband and I back there, but I'm not even sure how to start looking. Most job postings I've seen announce in HUGE CAPITALIZED WORDS that they're only looking for Singaporeans and/or Malaysians.
Can anyone share some success stories or tips for a foreigner finding a job in Singapore?

Network network -- surely you have some friends from your Singapore days? Are any of them working in industries that interest you?

hmmm.. i faced it all too... but still kept trying, networking, calling/meeting consultants, sending applications n finally got myself a decent job after 4 months of landing here....

its tuff but definitely not impossible...
n not all jobs mention that they want only PR's/Singapore citizens...
most big/reputed firms wud b willing to take u even if ur on DP or not even staying here...

I am heartened by your reply of some companies not being very particular about singapore citizens/ PRs coz even I am trying for a job at singapore from Bangalore, India. Do you think i can succeed by applying online and being in touch with singapore job consultants through phone?

While what indianexpat says is basically true, it is truer still that you almost have to be physically present in Singapore in order to get a nibble. (Unless you are being headhunted by the firm - then they will do whatever is necessary to get you here) If you are a Job Seeker it gets a bit harder.

What you would almost need to do is apply for and hopefully obtain a EPEC (Employment Pass Eligibility Certificate) from a Singapore Consulate in India. Once you have this in hand, you will still almost have to come to Singapore for several months as indianexpat apparently did.

The local Agencies here will take your CV and generally just circular file or dump it into a common folder on a server somewhere if you are not physically present here. MBA's are rather commonplace here and unless it is from a renown University it may not get you much mileage. A trip to Singapore is in order - you can consider it an investment in your future much like the cost of your MBA.
