How much do you normally need to deposit intially when you open an account ? $1,000/2000 sng dollars?

You need practically nothing to open an account, but most (all?) banks here charge a few bucks per month if you don't maintain a certain minimum average.

DBS required us to open an account with $500.00 sitting in it up front
