learning mandarin in Spore?

Hello,
I have been in Spore for a few months and I would like to take the opportunity to learn chinese mandarin.
do you know where to find a qualified teacher for that? (I am looking for either a tutor or a class)
The chinese chamber provides the CERTs but I think it is a bit overpriced given the lessons (especially for beginners)
How much do you think learning with a tutor would cost / hour ?
Thanks

A.

thanks for the link I will investigate.
any ideas of the cost of a private tutor btw?
I have been told to avoid singaporeans because of the accent which is a bit different.
I am open to other suggestions

The Singaporeans may not be speaking "proper" Mandarin but that is what you require to survive in this country. More or less understand what the other party is talking about. One of my friends had a tutor from China but after completing the course and speaking with fellow Singaporeans, she felt it was a waste of time. She would rather have had a Singaporean Chinese tutor who speaks the "local" Chinese Mandarin.

Actually I've found surviving on English fairly straightforward...
What is the reason you want to learn Chinese: is because you're planning to move onto the "real" China at some point, or do you just want to integrate better in Singapore? If the latter, I suspect a Singlish/Hokkien teacher would be better.

Hi there!
thanks for your answers.
1st answer... I plan to have commercial activities with china later next year and I would like to be able to speak a few words.
Surviving on English is definitely very easy in Spore!!

I have no idea how u define the qualify private tutor, but I did heaps private tutoring stuff when I was studying in Australia, and I charge very reasonable low rate. further more, I am native speaker of mandarin.

Hi
Are you still interested in giving mandarin lessons? I am looking for weekdays, daytime conversational lessons.
Cheers,
Manon
