hi,
can someone please explain to me what rebonding is exactly, and what the difference between "Japanese Thermal Straightening" and Rebonding is?

Once you have rebonding done, can you ever curl your hair (ie for a fancy party, etc) or are you stuck with stick straigh hair? can you still use pony-tail, etc? swimming in chlorine pool?

any advice/tips explanations would be helpful! thanks!!!!!!!!

It sounds the same to me, when you rebond your hair (aka ironing your hair), it is more difficult to curl it as the texture of the hair naturally becomes smoother and thinner, but you can still do it.

Well, actually they are referring to the exact same thing The difference is in the chemicals that are used. They come from different companies and are thus named differently and priced differently.

The process goes like that. Chemicals are added to your hair to break it down and then they are 'rebonded' together again to form a different structure.. (straight- rebonding, curls-ionic/spa perm)

once you have your rebonding done, you can still curl or tie your hair. you can also swim.

However, you are not suppose to tie your hair in the first 48 hours to let it settle down.

As your hair has been chemically treated, it is now hollow and weak. So, it is not advisable to swim too much. If you have to, put on some conditioner and use a swimming cap before you start swimming to protect your hair.

Further to this subject, are there any reputable salons (better still, stylists) anyone can recommend to do the rebonding here in Singapore? I'm located centrally, in Orchard. If there's anywhere that specialises in rebonding, that'd be ideal!

Lilyjules - I've had my hair straightened twice (have that goes very fluffy and unmanageable in the humidity) using Japanese Thermal Straightening (from what I can tell rebonding does the same thing) once in Tokyo and the second time in London. It works wonders! I found my hair was ruler straight for the first month or so, but was easier to add a little wave to after that, if I wanted to.

thanks for all the info! ya, in Australia I think they call it Japanese Thermal Straightening, and my stylist there recommended AGAINST it (said then you can never wear it curly for a night out), so i didn't get it. but here, I can't STAND the thought of sitting under hair dryer in the humidity here!!!

i went to a lovely stylist (although expensive) recommended from a former expat who was here for 8 years and he seems to think it is fine to do this and do hair colour! so i am wondering if they are just more experienced here than in Oz (even though i went to the "top" celebrity stylist salon in sydney)?

Ooh, two years ago in Tokyo they said I basically had to make the choice between having my hair straight or coloured, and I chose straight. But maybe the technology has advanced since then. I'm thinking of putting a semi permanent over my hair this time round, but won't be doing any bleaching in a hurry!

I was home a year ago (in Melbourne) and few people there seemed to know much about these straightening systems, and I heard of one placing charging 1000 bucks! Insane. My usual salon there said it wasn't worth their while as it takes so long in labour, etc, with someone having to tend to your hair for five hours. Anyway, it seems as though they would be heaps more advanced here in Singapore. If you don't mind me asking, which stylist was recommended to you here? I have to get my hair sorted and soon!

My hairstylist advised me that hair straightening is better than rebonding, because the chemicals used in straightening is not as harmful to your hair.
I have had my hair straightened for about 8 times now since 5 yrs ago. Now i straighten my hair every 6 mths because the effect lasts about that long.
Besides straightening my hair, i highlight and bleach my hair about 1 week later because i study overseas and have no time to wait.
Even though i straightened and highlight/bleach my hair so many times, my hair still looks really nice but of course i know it's quite dry.
However, it's still in really good state thanks to my hairdresser, Priscilla and she's located at Formula Cut at Far East Plaza Level 5. She will make sure your hair is well taken care of.
Also, i use leave on conditioner every night and the brand is Excel Elemente from Malaysia. I swear by this product..it makes your hair hydrated and smooth and it smells like strawberries. But you can only get this brand from those suppliers who earn commission.
