Dear All,
I need to help from you all. I am from Myanmar. I am IT professional. I am Hepatitis B carrier since i was young. But I am healthy, i can work like others people. Some said that I can't work there because of my Hepatitis B disease. Some said that I can work. So I am so confusing. I am afraid that I can't work there because I am very enthusiastic to work at Singapore. I want to know that medical examination for Employment Pass depends on what? Who need to make check-up Hepatitis B?
So could you please give me adivse to me?

Poorboy,

You might want to contact MoM directly and ask. I know that the medical checkup seems to be mainly focused on Aids and TB but I don't know if your situation will affect your ability to get an employment pass. It is best to ask them directly as they are quite good about responding.

Thank you very much for your advise.
I have already ask to Mom. They said they can't advise on me and they ask me to apply my medical history and they said that application will be subjected to approval on a case to case basis.
So how can I understand that? And I can't be sure if my EP depends on my HepaB or not. How my HepaB effect to get EP? I just want to these.
I welcome others' advise on me.. Thanks to all.

I don't like to dampen people's spirits but since Hepatitis B is contagious I think your application will most likely be rejected.

Hepatitis A can be widely spread to epidemic proportion, anyone can get it however I don't believe that hepatitis B is infectious, it is very serious and you carry it for the rest of your life, but it doesn't always spread, If you was infectious, I don't believe even your Country can be so
irresponsible, to let you walk around.

Hepatitis B is very serious however, but is not contagious in many cases

My wife and I was only tested for HIV for our EP/DP on both occassions, HIV test is on the renewel form, not any other test. Although I would suspect if you are coming from Countries carrying the disease in epidemic proportions, you must declare however any illness you have, if you don't wish to go to prison.

The type B depends if you are a carrier or a transmitter of the disease!

What kind of blood test does MOM require? Hepa B? HIV? Drug test?

Probably not.

For the record, Hepatitis B will NOT be used to keep someone from working in Singapore. This from a newflash in April this year (2010). The Ministry of Manpower only screens for HIV, TB, Syphilis and Malaria.

One reason is that most Singaporeans and all born after 1985 in Singapore have been vaccinated against HePB in the Childhood Immunization Programme. As it is generally not transmittable via casual contact it's not really too much of a danger. But you do have to make a full honest medical history report and note it if you are a carrier otherwise you are breaking the law.

All foreign workers, including FDWs, have to undergo a medical examination by a registered Singapore doctor within 14 days of their arrival in Singapore. They will be screened for HIV, tuberculosis, syphilis and malaria. They must provide accurate details of their medical history, failing which they may be barred from working here.
