Hi.

I need help. I am an Indian Chartered Accountant, and have been offered a job with a big four consulting firm.

I need to know the following:

1. Is a salary of 5000K enough for a family of two + 1 ten month kid

2. Which locality do Indians generally stay...my wife would need company and help

3. Approx rent for a two bedroom apartment near that location.

Yes, 5000K isn't bad at all. There are Indians through Singapore but Little India would be obvious choice; not the most desirable neighborhood though, although it's quite central.

Ehm, I take it you guys are talking about 5K here?

You can go for a 2 bedrooms at the serangoon area which costs about $1,200 for condominiums.

If you opt for HDB (govt flats) they could cost you about $700-$800. Really depends on how far you want to stretch.

i did see a large number of postings on this web site, however, some mention P/FUR and some F/FUR. I would like to know what fully furnished generally means.

also, none of the listings mentions the distance from the nearest MRT... i am doing a tough job of checking up each address at streetdirectory and trying to find the distance from the nearest MRT.

Is there an easy way out ?

In Singapore, partially furnished means white goods eg; stove, washing machine, fridge.

Fully furnished means the unit has the essential stuff you will need like couch, lounge set, beds. However, every unit is different. You may get varied furniture depending on how the owner furnishes it. Basic furniture shouldn't be a problem though.

Where will your work place be? You have to determine which area you want to stay in; walking distance, accessible by trains or buses? How much do you want to spend on lodging?

A $5K salary is pretty good to support your family. If you want facilities like a pool and gym without having to pay membership, a condo would be ideal, otherwise a HDB would be sufficient.

Hey guys, one of my friend in singapore has told me that i would get a studio apartment fully furnished for 800$ within 10 minutes travel distance to Shanton way (my office).. Can you tell me if i agree for a travel time of 25-30 minutes can the cost come down to 400-500 $ for a fully furnished private studio aprtment??

Err... no. Unless it's a really grungy dive.

Most people here with low budgets don't get studio apartments, they rent a larger apartment with a housemate or two to split the cost. This usually works out a lot cheaper.

am indian too, moving to Sg in mid jan from london.Any tips on condos close to CBD? Im not really bothered about distance from CBD but Id prefer a sea view...housing allowance is SG$5 K pm...would wellcome suggestions..

And if you guys would like to meet up in Sg when I get there, that would be great, am coming first in Dec to look for a condo/get lease..
