Singapore Expats

this has probably been covered before but I can't find the thread ...


We are looking for somewhere to go for 3 nights during this period and wonder if there is any advice out there of good spots to go to that are reasonably short haul ( less than 6 hours from Singapore) . We are less than 6 months over here and so far have been to Bali , Ko Samui, Hong Kong, KL and Bintan....so looking for something new . Could be cultural or could be beachside . Alternatively coiuld be just a really cool getaway. Advice?[/code]

Budget? Interests? Your description matches anything from Delhi to the Maldives and East Timor...

You can go to many places.

1. Sentosa Resort
2. Johor Bahru (palm Resort - If you fancy golf)
3. Langkawi - Diving or relax
4. KL - Shopping
5. Bangkok - Shopping or food

We went to Krabi last year, nice and relaxing, lovely beach, think we stayed at Raylay Beach. Good for rockclimbing (all levels) or boat trips out to Phi Phi etc, nightlife was a bit quiet so depends what you're looking for, would reccomend it though, nice place to chill.

Me and my wife would like to go around thailand during the chinese new year. any suggestions. have heard about krabi...can u tell us about budget hotels in krabi and are there direct flights from SG.

Personally I feel Phuket is much better than Krabi. We will be in Phuket again for this Chinese New Year.

thanks all , you've all been very helpful . ended up flying to Perth instead so maybe I will report back after trip . Any advice on where to visits whilst there ( restaurants, bars, beaches etc etc)

Sparky: can I ask you if you had to apply for a visitors visa before you go to Australia? Many moons ago you needed to pre-apply for a visa before you bought tickets to even travel there for a visit.

And well now that I am so close do I still need to do all that rubbish or can I just buy a ticket and get a stamp at the airport?


Wish I could give you advice, but never been to Perth although I plan a visit as I have a friend who lives there Let me know how it goes. I have heard about swimming with dolphins over there, although that was a long time ago

You still need to pre-apply, but you can do it online. Even if you forget, it can be done at the airport (in SIN), but that'll cost you a few bucks.

You will enjoy perth . Get out of the city though. Blue duck at cottesloe beach is nice for food and drinks..Tifffany (i can't remember but think it is) at cottesloe beach is nice too.. somewhere behind the railway track near freo is great (not sure if there are still in operation)... brass monkey at northbridge is a nice pub to go... trip to karri valley is nice... Take a trip down margaret river to do the vineyard thingy though you may have missed leuwin estate concert by the time you are there. Will be kind of HOT still as it is at the moment... Hmm...shall think of more places... Basically, you will finish the city in couple of days thus, will be good to take a drive down south or up north.

i don't know if my response is late...

but i can suggest a tour to Malaysia... one of my colleagues is going there this Chinese New Year...

According to him it would be a nature trip of some sort...

but u gotta stay on a coach basically have breakfast there and sleep there as well...if your cool with it...

it's 200 perpax and it includes rafting and nature trip... i'll ask him tomorrow for other details...
