hi,

i'm french with a Q1 Pass for the next 18 months.

is it easy for my to buy a second hand scooter or motorbike ??

how run vehicle registration and insurances in SG ?

i have a french social and health security cover, but they don't care about vehicle damages. So i must have a local insurance just for that.

Can someone give me the way to find this ....

thanks

No problem, if you hold a driving licence for a bike and you hold a permit to stay here, go ahead.

The only thing a bit difficult in your case could be to get a loan for the bike, if you need one that is (because your permit seems to be only for 18 months, not too long and banks will be hesitant). If you pay the bike on a credit card or cash, you can then get a local insurance company to insure it and ride the scooter or bike.

Done deal, quite straightforward.

For lots of info:

In general,

a) You will need a motorcycle license. If you have one now you can convert to a class 2B, max of 200 cc's.

b) COE for a new MC is about $700.

c) Raod tax for a small bike is under $100.

d) Insurance (full) depends on age but $400 to $700 per year.

e) Loan will be tough, although if you buy from a bike shop you may get an 18 month loan. Will have to look around.

From experience,

A loan for a second hand bike is almost impossible here (be it you hold an EP or even PR status). The banks themselves don't do it, even not when the bike is bought from a dealer.

You can try with Hitachi financing, who do second hand bikes, but they will request you to have a guarantor (PR or Singapore citizen) with property and at least 2,5k sgd income per month.

Ask around. Check the classifieds. You can get into used 200 cc bikes pretty cheap.
