Looking For Shelving

Anyone know where to buy shelving. ?
Something to drill onto the wall in the lounge room. An ornamental shelf sort of thing.
I checked out the IKEA website, and they didn't have anything that I was specifically looking for (except for some ugly stainless steel monstrocity).

I get the impression that locals don't do much DIY, as I've never been able to find anything like B&Q or Home Depot. This question comes up a lot and the suggestion often IS Ikea - may not be on the website but they do have a woodyard of sorts, although it's mainly pre-cut for the shelving systems they have in the catalogue.
You may need to get out and about into the more local areas. I know there is a woodshop on Geylang Road, between Lorong 24a and Lorong 26. Probably more along Balestier Road.[/b]

DIY is quite new to Asia, and I bet my bottom $ that it will take off, especially with prices of services spiralling. B&Q is a great success in Taiwan, they will eventually come here, I believe!
The work ethics and culture are simular, although Singaporeans, in general are educated , the majority of unskilled workforce is quite high, I guess the target market will be researched in great detail, before taking the plunge in DIY, there are small DIY shops, but nothing on the scale of B&Q yet, that I've seen.
The hardware shop SMS posted, is a useful start.

Hey, I've got that ugly stainless steel monstrosity.....although I have to admit, it is in the store room......and very handy it is too!
Sorry, I don't know where you'd get something shelf like and ornamental that you could put up yourself. All the nice furniture shops I see seem to go more for the bookcase type of shelving, not the drill into the wall type.
People tell me that Dempsy Rd area has lots of furniture/teak/ornamental type shops but given that my living room looks like an Ikea showroom (from 20 years ago!!), I'm not an authority on the matter.

I think its kinda hard for most S'poreans to really take on DIY projects. Where in a small HDB flat would you find the space to actually build something. All the more so, if you have kids running around and getting in the way.
I've wanted to start projects before but never really did because of the space issue.

you could probably get someone (handy man) to make you something, there is a lovely teak shop in the rail mall on Upper Bukit Timah, how big are you looking for? IKEA does a rather large wall shelf (LACK) it can be free standing or attached to a wall, and they have more in store than online, anyway, there is also a handyman centre in Shaw House off of Orchard Road.
I was very excited to find it,
they have lots of DIY stuff in a small shop. I miss my B&Q and Home depot, but there is always something out there, you need to go look to find it tho.
