Singapore Expats

Hello all,

I passed an associate degree in computer integrated manufacturing in 1998 and attended "Network and database administration" courses between 1999 and 2001. I began as a Network Technician trainee during this period, then I've been hired as a Network Engineer in mid 2001 and get promoted to a Network Architect position in the same company (4600 employees, 500M€ turnover) in 2005.

I'm now managing large IT security projects and designing smart network architectures in a large and critical environment. My superiors and colleagues see me as the "security guy", they come to me when complex situations or security issues have to be solved. I consider myself as a self made man, boosted by an infinite thirst of knowledge particularly in the IT security field.

My main skills are:
- Vulnerability assessment
- Web content filtering
- High availability / Load balancing
- Network architecture
- Wireless security

After more than 5 years in the same company, being single with no children and highly excited by new challenges, I consider leaving France to Singapore during 2007. Indeed, the no-limit spirit, the miraculous economy and the harmonious blend of cultures act as a magnet on me !

As I have now a strong IT security background, a solid experience and just passed the CISSP but don't have the holy IT bachelor's degree from a well know university, does anyone think that my profile could interest local recruitment companies ?

Since you have an engineering degree , any changes you have made since then do not matter. What matters is your achievement in what you have done.

Personally, I would say you are a shoe-in provided you can find the employer with the requirements. The degree is NOT necessarily the holy grail as it were. It DOES help but MOM will be more interested in what you are bringing to the table in experience. (Good) Security experts are needed and I would not foresee any real problems with your experience in getting the requisite Employment Pass. You just need an employer.

Maybe SE will see this and add to this as IT is his business.

Thanks for these encouraging answers, I'm glad to hear your thoughts about the "Skill, experience and achievements" vs "Degree" dilemna. Concerning the EP, I already passed the online Self Assessment Tool successfully so this point should not be a problem.

I will now begin to contact local IT recruitment companies to get their feedback. I also plan a tourist trip to SG in march, I hope it will be the occasion for some interviews.

hey rom, which part of France are you from?
I think, experience is really more important.
I have a full baggage of theories but what's really lacking in me is experience and this explains my difficulties in the job-market.

About a month ago, I kept seeing an ad for Security Professionals. The fact that you hold a CISSP and has years of IT security experience is more than enough to get you that job. Try searching the job boards in jobstreet.com.sg and jobsdb.com.sg
