Career change into marketing

I have been working for 6 years in Telecom engineering/proj mgmt and want to make a change into consumer marketing.
#Anybody here have any experience or ideas on how best to do this?
#Do you know any specific consumer goods/services companies where this has happened.
I plan to pursue an MBA and then make this transition , and want to start some groundwork now.
