Singapore Expats

I am actually a newbie here in this forum, so I guess I should introduce myself.

I am a Singaporean, graduated in US, worked for a few years, and now I owned a small import export trading company called Ryu-Mei in Japan. My speciality is in Food and Beverage. For many years, I am seeing a positive growth in organic products globally, and I am working very hard to export Japanese organic food to Hong Kong and US. Now, I am trying to bring new Japanese products into Singapore too.

I want to set up a network of friends, restaurants owners, suppliers, retailers etc that works in F&B. So, if you are interested in joining my network of businessmen & friends, please post something here, and we can discuss more F&B trends, ideas, opportunitoes etc. Or if you wanted to engage in just friendship or to know more about Japanese food, I will be happy too.

well, 2 days ago, I went to the Foodex 07 in Japan, and I have met some great F&B singaporeans businessmen and women. They made the most delicious food in Singapore and I would like to share my experice with you.

SingaFood: 4 great companies merged to form an alliance. They produce ready made satay, laksa, curry rice, instant shark fins etc. I have tasted it and it was pretty delicious (I wouldnt say the best). I sat down and talked to the 4 big bosses of the company, and I must say that I am very honor to know them all. Their curry, laksa and satay sauce may have a maket in Japan but their problem can be quite challenging. I am just hoping that Japanese will appreciate the SouthEast asian curry more than their sweet jap curry.www.spore-food-delight.com

Hai's: I met Director of Sale Shirley Phua and her "witty" husband of SMS Food who represent Hai's Food. Hai's Squeeze 'N' Spread Kaya Jam was a big eye opener and after tasting kaya jam, I cant help but feeling nostalgic through the day. My impression with Shirley was that she was a very confident businesswoman with lots of accomplishments, ideas and ambitions. She is the kind that has "never give up!" imprinted in her dictionary. Kinda remind me again "Never underestimate Singaporean women!" I am pretty sure I will be talking to her again over some interesting business proposals.www.sms-food.com


Anyway, the two companies' have great product, great vision, and great business sense. I wish them luck penetrating the Jap market (not easy!).

Too bad I did not have time to explore the other Singapore companies. Maybe next time.

It can be daunting to introduce our form of curry to them since they are used to their version of creamy curry. And these 2 are so different and some may not even recognise the Japanese curry as being curry.

I recently met a distributor of Japanese confectionary good in the USA. I learnt a lot from him and am interested to learn even more about the biz.

I believe in most introduction of new products required a good marketing strategy aimed @ creating curosity(since its F&B industry) that is the most important. Different favour might helps in creating your own regular customer base n create a name for yourself
