Singapore Expats

hi,
has anyone been to disneyland hong kong? we are planning on taking our 4 year old daughter there this june. can anyone recommend a hotel not too far away and resonably priced besides the 2 disney offers? thanks in advance!

My big warning to you is that it will be really, really hot there in June. Not a lot of cover there either, and if (no if really) you have to queue it will be a pain. I would suggest going later in the year if you can (Nov to Feb) less heat, less humidity etc. much more fun.
No other hotels are really close to Disneyland as it is on Lantau Island, but really the train only takes 30 mins max from any of the central MTR stops on the Island or Kowloon where all the major hotels are, and you just change and get on the disney train direct to the park.

Disney in HK is not as big as you maybe expect/want it to be.

In fact, my wife went and after being to both the one in Orlando and the one in Tokyo she said she'd never go back to the HK one, even though she still lives there. Her words were "it's tiny" but i suppose if you've not been to any, and have no way of getting to any of the others then it's at least better than nothing.

However, Ocean Park on the southern side of HK Island is attracting much more visitors than Disney now and if i were you i would head there. Maybe do Disney first then finish it off with a trip to Ocean Park rather than the other way around. If you stay on HK Island then it's easier to do both parks.

The nearby hotel is in Tsing Yi Island.

It is called Rambler Oasis Hotel. However,
the hotel is not near to the Tsing Yi MTR station.
It takes about 10 mins by bus from the hotel to Tsing Yi MTR station.

May be you can stay at any hotel near to MTR station.

Note: Hong Kong Disneyland is the smallest of any Disneyland.
However, it is the nearest Disneyland to Singapore.

thank you all so much for your suggestions. i agree in june, the heat will melt us but, its the only time my husband can get off work. coming from california im sure this disneyland will seem very small but my daughter wants to go to disneyland soooooooooooo badly, its the closest one to us so we will try.the other park mentioned sounds great too. thanks again! denise

I have not been, but a friend recently went there and he was stunned by the bad manners of the mainland tourist, they have little concept of queuing, shouting at each other all the time and barging through crowds using elbows.

Dont know if its true I heard Beijing is making real efforts through advertising to educate the locals on what is acceptable manners before the Olympic games, so be prepared to be elbowed.

Both are true.

Actually when the park first opened, the staff had to keep trying to stop the Chinese peeing (and worse) in the flowers.

With regards training, i believe they also run courses for some tours that go to Europe in order to try and have their tourists give a better impression. Obviously they don't need to take these courses for more local destinations.

was there twice last year and didn't like the way the mainland chinese behaved. was in the queue and these 2 girls came rushing past us and stopped just a few heads ahead of us. we didn't paid much attention thinking they were with their parents (the couple standing ahead of them). as the queue was long, we assumed that the parents must be waiting in line while the kids wandered around. to our shock, a group of about 6 adults just walked up to them and stood in the queue. the family behind them was furious and demanded they queue up. but they insisted they were in the queue cos' the kids were there. they were pretty aggressive and was about to hit the guy who told them to queue up when the staff came and broke it up. though they have to leave the queue, they were still cursing and one of them spit on the floor at the family. this was not an isolated incident. queue cutting was pretty common the 2 times i was there. so just keep your cool when dealing with them.

they don't seem to understand "wait for your turn". taking pictures with the disney characters is another big headache. you queue for your turn and when you are about to have your picture taken, one of them (those not in the queue) will quickly run up and have her picture snap thus spoiling your picture.

apart from these, disneyland is quite a nice and small place. checkout what time the firework is and plan your schedule. don't think you need to spend the whole day there.

i stayed in both the disney hotel and disney hollywood. prefer the first but the rates might have gone up.

ha and whats really scary, these are the privileged members of the mainlanders that have been allowed out!!

I went to Disneyland last June, I did not find it too hot, infact one day it was drizzling and that was great as it was empty and no lines. I heard the Disneyland Hotel (not Hollywood) is good about S$300+ per night, but 2 big queensize beds which means you dont need 2 rooms. I would suggest staying one night, then get into Disneyland 2 times.
I feel HK Disneyland it just right for a 4 year old child, yes it is small, but if the States it is so huge you would never get to see everything by dragging a small child everywhere, too much walking.
I am going back again in April with a 3 and 5 yr old, they love it.
Mind you while my kids are waiting to take photos with Buzz, Minnie etc. they have to queue up with 20 adults and no kids, very strange. Even adults wont give way to the kids in the queue. Very bazzar behaviour.

Not sure why they should give way.

a) Kids need to learn how to queue
b) Let one kid in, let them all in and never get to the front
c) Queues are for everyone, no discrimination / no advantage
