Hi everyone. I was just looking at a website that said that you start with 7 days annual leave per year. I was just wondering if anyone can confirm this please. Also have you found that this can be negotiated to a higher amount? Thanks in advance. Just something to consider when we come from a country giving 20 days.

You may have been on the MOM website. The Ministry of Manpower and the Employment Act require that any employee who earns less that 1600/mo shall be subject to the employment act and it's provisions. One of which is the MINIMUM of 7 days per years with an additional day per year up to an additional 7 days or 14 days/year. The Employment Act is only for non-managerial or non-executive type positions (labourer & seamen essentially). As you are not from one of the "Traditional" sources of "Workers" you would not be able to get a Work Permit at any rate. You would more than likely come in with an Employment Pass (P1 or P2) which means you would have to earn at least 2500/mo thereabouts or at worst an "S" Pass (highly unlikely as well)

The amount of annual leave provided is up to the individual company's policies with the average local company provided an average of 10 to 14 days to start and with an incremental day/year up to 21 to 24 on the average. The MNC's on the other hand do provide an average of 14 to 21 days to start. Additionally there are 14 days per year sick leave (but you must see a doctor and get a Medical Certificate to support this otherwise you will be just considered on a day of without pay) and 11 Gazetted (Paid) holidays per year.

Thanks SMS... that was really helpful. It is okay for me being a Stay at Home Mum but would like to think that my hubby could get home for longer than a week.
