Singapore Expats

I am a 27 year old Canadian Producer with 6 years experience in the television and events industry and I am looking to relocate full time to Singapore. I previously worked in Singapore last summer for three months and I am returning at the end of the start of May. If anyone knows of any positions available or has any suggestions please PM me and I will send out my CV immediately.

I am also looking for work in the media industry, can anyone tell me who the main broadcasters are in Singapore, other than MediaCorp?

They are the only broadcasters in Singapore since MediaWorks was taken over by MediaCorp and all channels except Channel 12 were axed.

There are production houses here however like Raintree Pictures which is a MediaCorp spinoff.

i wish to work in tv or music industry,but due to no experience no related

I have a media degree, and a few years of experience working for a television company, but I'm not sure of what chance I have of getting a job.

I have applied for positions with MediaCorp, but are they likely to consider someone from the UK? I'm looking to get a position before I move out there!

Mediacorp is less likely to consider expats for positions than some of the cable channels.

Your best best is to look into the Regional Channels such as:

AXN
Disney
Discovery
National Geographic
ESPN
Asian Food Channel
Nickelodeon

They all have offices in Singapore.

I spoke to the HR people at MediaCorp, and was told that is was very rare for them to hire foreigners. I just secured a position at one of the top broadcasters, I believe AXN and Disney are currently hiring as well. Check out their websites. Discovery and CNBC didn't really have much currently.

Congrats dude! I'm probably in a similar job hunt to yours but a couple of months behind.

Mind sharing which sites/ avenues you've been looking in? The job sites seem a bit sparse at the moment.

Saw the CNBC and Disney jobs, and I think BBC world posted something a few weeks back. I'll probably be coming end of this year/ beginning of next year, do you reckon its too early to be trawling vacancies?

The jobsites here don't have much for media jobs, www.jobstreet.com.sg seemed to be the best one though. I wouldn't waste your time. You have to apply directly with the broadcasters. Check out this site, it lists all the Singapore broadcasters, and then log onto their websites. http://www.lyngsat-address.com/tv/Singapore.html

I tried applying from home and it didn't get me anywhere, it wasn't till I got here and started talking to the HR people that I began to get anywhere. Hope that helps, good luck with the job hunt. See you when you get to Singapore.

Thanks for the link, that will be massively helpful. I know what you mean about applying whilst still abroad, I've applied for a few positions and so far, its nada and zilch... even ones which I think I would at least definitely get an interview. Perhaps the companies are put off by the fact that I'm still abroad? too much 'hassle' for them?

Did you just call up HR and ask them to arrange a chat with the respective department heads? or did you just ask to go in for a chat with HR? I guess many of the positions available are simply not advertised and word of mouth is a major factor in people getting jobs, not unlike here in London.

There's still a few more months more before I can move as I need to tie up all the loose ends here (renting out the house, finishing up on the job, sort out shipping of my misc crap etc)
