Chip. Proper chips.

In a discussion last night with a multi cultural group the subject of national food came up and we (the British) were asked where you could get 'proper' English chips in Singapore, the answer to which I didn't know, so I'm hoping someone out there might.

For the uninitiated, 'proper' chips must be made from potatoes on site (not frozen) and generally will be wrapped in paper. They are fat, not thin and usually somewhat anemic and a bit soggy.

I'd also be interested in the whereabouts of good frites - these are also the fat version (cw fries - thin a la McDonalds etc) but are crispy on the outside and should be hot and fluffy inside. The best I've had so far are at Brussel Sprout (Robinson).

Thanks

Have you tried the MOS Burger fries? They look and taste like potatoes. They are not that crisp but not very soggy either. They are not brownish-golden but just yellow-golden in colour. And they use BIG potato strips. Wonder where they buy their potatoes.

Try the chips and the fries that go along with the fish in Fishermen's Wharf...

No - those are fries all right, 50% potato at max and reconstituted (hence the length).

The Colbar. You either love it or you hate it, but it does the best chips on the island.

The best chips and curry sauce i have found so far is in the Dubliner, although that is more fries (skinny ones) and curry sauce....

I like those at Charlie's Corner, Changi Village. They are famous for their chips, coney dogs and beers. The beers are over priced but a cool place to chill out. Available in the evening.
