Singapore Expats

Hi all,

I've been offered a package to relocate to Singapore:
$115k base, Bonus $35k, all relo costs plus $12k USD tax free bonus, medical insurance. This is their maximum - have already nedotiated.
Plus they guarantee my job back in Australia after two years if I want to come back

Married with one and one on the way.

Concerned that this may not be enough, especially considering the current rental climate. Any thoughts ??

Nowhere near enough...you need at least $100k/month to survive, even the janitor in my office is making 50k+. With children you should ask for at least 200k

Seriously, search through the forums there's tons of info on what you want to know

it's decent enough to live in singapore. what about the tax situation? will the company gross up on aussie taxes or singaporean taxes?

however, that said, most expat packages run above S$200k in cash value if u're in a senior mgmt/director level position.

Is this US$ or S$?

The salary is SGD and I've been guaranteed I will be taxed as a redident.
Relocation bonus is $12k USD - and they will pay the tax

They have upped my base offer to $125 K. So total should be around
$160K SGD plus $12KUSD tax free one off payment

To me this looks ok. I'm not senior management, more middle, however career wise it will be a good move (given that I will be exposed to global markets etc) and I am guaranteed a job back home if I want to return.

$125K taxed at say 15% so a net of $8850 per month? And most flats cost $3000+++ ?

sounds ok. got expats told me they earn ard 200 - 300k including housing woh. some are not really "expat" terms but convert current country pay into sg pay plus some living allowance etc. but its a good move - hope you like Sg!

$3000+ is not for MOST flats. They are already the high-class flats.

Most flats are about 1800-2500.

Well, if you wanna live in a presidential suite, this mere amount of $115K will never be enough!

On this web site a lot of 3 br flats near the MRT seem to be 3000+.

This is an expat site, so the accommodation listings are mostly from the higher end. I live 5 min from an MRT station two stops from Orchard and pay less than half that... but then again, nobody'd describe this place as "high end"!

You are probably right. I've not arrived there yet (Aug) but the plan is to keep the 'at home' wife & kids happy with a nice flat with a pool.

Well, if you look at the search function of the property section, the MINIMUM rent is now $1800, and $2000) for a house/landed property... Absolutely ridiculous considering there are properties around that are less than that, but it suggests to new expats that there aren't.

Not ranting at you (unless you are the property agent), just pointing out the dumbness...

Out of curiosity, can you name me a single condo in an area popular with expats (Holland V, River Valley, East Coast, etc) that's under S$1800/month and hasn't been en-bloc'd yet? There used to be tons, but things have changed...

Expats live everywhere. I moved out to the "boondocks" and there are expats here. The search engine will still show condos and houses in all areas, but only over the preset prices, which is what I was saying.

En-bloc sucks.
