Hello

Could anyone advise what would be an average starting salary for local staff (not expats) ? I am considering moving my business to Singapore and this is one of the things I have not yet got a handle on. I'm talking about the following kinds of jobs -
1. unskilled desk jobs (clerical work) where the only skills needed are basic computer knowledge (MS Office) and common sense. Higher education not required. English is necessary.
2. light manual work - packaging, small-warehouse work (loading/unloading by hand, not with forklift). Again no qualifications other than common sense required.

Thanks in advance

Basic clerical work: 1100-1500/month

Light Manual Work, Warehouseman, etc: $900-1300/mo

Course you can find higher paying and some lower paying if you use Work Permit holders from Malaysia for the Warehouse (800-1000/mo).

Thank you !

How does one go about finding such staff ? Is there a governement labour agency ? private/government websites ? printed classifieds ?

Is it generally easy to find such staff ? In HK I have found it very easy.

very easy. just post an advert in jobsdb.com or jobstreet.com. or any of the job boards or in the classified here (although I don't think these types are our main readership here). A simple 3 line ad in the straits times will do the trick cheaply.

Or you can use one of the 1100+ employment licensed agencies here in Singapore. most will charge you between 50% and 70% of the first month's salary as a commission. (cheaper to post an ad in the straits times).
