Could anyone recommend a class or tutor who is willing to help me learn mandarin. Basic level. In fact just verbal would be a great start. Thanks

Hi, try the classes held by the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce (Institute of Business - SCCIOB). http://www.scciob.edu.sg

Their Gateway to Mandarin class is quite good, very structured and needs no previous experience. If you're taking Level 1, there's no entrance test.

The evening classes are good, but if you work late they also do Saturday classes. I like their location because they're just a short walk from City Hall MRT.

Getting a private tutor is another option. You might progress faster with private tuition but then again it's more fun in a class!

hi laura, i'd love to learn mandarin, if you are willing to teach. i know nada of the language and you can teach me from the very basic... and it would be great to meet a new friend at the same time!

You posted a message a while ago saying that you would be happy to teach mandarin. Are you still interested? I amd a beginner, I learn with a very good book and CDs but I need to improve my pronounciation and hearing. If you are interested to give me lessons for a fee, please answer this message.

I am interested... what do you mean by "standard madarin chinese"? which dialect would that be?

I would be interestd in a trial lesson - how can I contact you to discuss meeting and fee?

Hey,

I just moved here about a month ago and am also interested in learning mandarin. I was taking a look at the blog from the last post. Looks pretty good, but expensive. Is $45/hour a standard price for tutoring? I have absolutely nothing to compare to, so not really sure if that is reasonable or not.

Any idea on this?
