Rockabilly (not existing in Singapore?)

Hi,
Before we moved to Singapore beginning of this year my husband used to play in a Rockabilly band for over 10 years. Here in Singapore we have never seen any "Rockabillies" nor found anything on the internet (bands, clubs having that music, . . .).
Although Asias "Scene", such as Japan, seems to be very big and my husband found a record store on Orchard selling lots of Rockabilly CDs and DVDs.
So, anybody else here interested in that kind of music or anybody got an idea if Rockabilly exists at all in Singapore?

The Rockabilly scene here in Singapore is really hit and miss...you have to keep your ear to the ground to find out where and when. Believe me it does exist Smackit used to do a bit of it along with some swing and as soon as they sort out their new drummer, they will be doing it again very soon I'm sure! The names of the other couple of bands I've seen over the years here have slipped my mind, but if I can think of them I'll be sure to post them for you!
FYI - There are a couple of bands that out there that do a few rockabilly songs between sets, but as far as the whole rockabilly scene...not really a big thing out here! Be sure to read Time Out, Juice, IS etc...they will have the best idea of where and when!

No problem! It's a funky mix of Rock and Hillbilly (early country music) kinda got popular in mainly southern USA around the same time punk reared it's head in the world sort of late 70's early 80'sish...Elvis was kind of one of the first true Rockabilly performers - check out
www.rockabilly.com or www.rockabillyradio.net...or just a google search, you should find what you are looking for! I'd suggest the Stray Cats, who are legends in their own right! Sid King and the 5 Strings are a pretty good example for the original rockabilly experience or for something a little more modern, I'd highly recommend "Reverand Horton Heat" - They always put on a great show and have some killer stuff!

I've never seen a rockabilly in 5 years here but maybe it's because I haven't hunted any down. I did see a young guy working in a cd shop in Parkway Parade with a rather impressive psychobilly-type quiff.

I'm a guitar player with more than a passing interest in rockabilly (Setzer, Gatton, Burton ,Scotty Moore and the like), but I haven't seen anything along those lines in Singapore.
I do know an upright bass player with the slapping moves though. If we can find a drummer and a vocalist (plenty of Elvis impersonators I reckon!) we'll start raising hell somewhere.

We play mostly at HOME club. Sometimes one of gigs organize by various promotors.
The band took a long break... so not sure we will play anymore shows in future.
But we are currently looking at forming a new band.
Anyone interested to join us? let me know.
