Singapore Expats

Hello Everyone,

I have another question... I am living in China now and will move to Singapore. I got used to the fake DVDs here and there are some movies and TV series which I would really like to take along to Singapore... I can't imagine again the days when I had to pay 20 dollars for a DVD...

I plan to carry the DVDs in my suitcase, not checked-in luggage, into Singapore. This way, unless they stop me in Customs and check all my luggage, I will be ok. Does anyone know what happens if they catch me? Do they just take the DVDs away? or would I have to pay a penalty? if so, how much?

Don't have a clue. But will tell you it's not worth the risk. Leave 'em at home else be prepared to have them either confiscated or as mentioned probably a fine of sorts. As far as them coming in unnoticed. Good Luck. Especially with the new scanning technology used to pick up plastic explosives and such. If that doesn't catch it, the specially trained sniffer dogs who can smell some type of fumes given off by the DVD plastic (something to do with the processing process) will get you caught.

First, disclaimer.

A few DVDs for personal consumption has thus far been okay for me. Just don't fill up a suitcase with them and claim it's for personal consumption.

I don't know if for all the flights going to SG includes a scanning of the hand-held luggage (bags allowed into the cabin). But whenever I fly in from the Philippines (and once from HK), the passengers' hand-held luggage were always scanned. If it's just a handful (10 pieces or something) and you put it in a CD/VCD/DVD plastic album (without the DVD boxes), you can always claim it's for personal use.

But if you can't bear the thought of not having your collection with you... then I suggest you save them in an external hard drive (160 Gig+). Just view them using your PC.
