Singapore Expats

I cannot seem to find vets/petstores who stock heartworm treatments for dogs.

Is heartworm not an issue for dogs in Singapore - with the amount of mosquitoes and reaches of dengue fever - I think not!

We brought our dog with us from Australia and pet owners here often mention the need to protect from ticks. But noone seems to mention heartworm protection and our supply of advocate is running low.

Any advice on where to purchase and any explanation why heartworm is not an issue?!

mate, what i do is have my vet give my dog a heartworm shot, which lasts for 1 year. with monthly pills, for me at least it's easy to forget, and a shot has the virtue of being really easy.

i have not heard specifically about heartworm here, but i totally agree with you... with all of the other bugs around here, i'd have to reckon that heartworm is an issue too!

thanks, i think i am just going to go the yearly vaccine for heartworm. the advantage of using something like advocate is that it takes care of fleas, heartworm, intestinal worms all in one monthly application. so i'll do the vaccine and then find alternate options for ticks/fleas/worming.

do vets here also routinely do the annual C5 injection for dogs?
