Singapore Expats

Hi guys

I've been in Singapore for almost 3 months now and I'm thoroughly enjoying the cuisine - however, I just had a craving today for a proper (or as close to!) 'Chippy Tea' !

Has anyone found a chip shop which is any good? Also, I know there is one in Raffles City, but haven't tried it. Has anyone? Thoughts?

Dont eat at the one in raffles city... its not fish n chips as we know it. For a start, the 'chips' are balls of instant mash deep fried.. need i say more? I havent ever found anything any good like home, but fish & co have a good try, although its fish and fries.. good luck

The Colbar mate, its been a stalwart for 20 over years, but still not the same as the real deal.

The Colbar certainly does the best chips on the island. You either love it or hate it.

I was walking through B2 at Plaza Singapura today and passed a shop called The British Chippie.

Didn't stop to sample the food so do not know what it is like but did notice they had deep fried Mars Bars on the menu.

Same as the Raffles City one, ozgirl. I think there's one at Central too. I haven't had anything from any of them but I pass by the Raffles City one regularly and it never looks very appealing - don't think I've ever seen a caucasian buying there so that's also probably a bad sign!

We do use Fish & Co for our occasional fix, but it's no comparison to proper fish, chips and mushy peas.

Am told there was a Harry Ramsdens some years ago but I've always thought they were crap anyway - and I'm from Leeds.

You should try Fishermen's Wharf across Central.. serves mainly different types of fish and chips..

Alternative places are Handle Bar and Blooie's.
