Singapore Expats

We are moving to Singapore in October and my kids will be attending CIS (don't know where we will be living yet but I assume it will be somewhere around that area). One of my immediate concerns is finding a good orthodontist for my daughter (age 12) as her braces need to tightened every six weeks. Any suggestions?

Will you have insurance? We have company provided insurance with AIA, so I looked into who was on their panel. We have since been to the dentist and orthodontist in the same practice and were very very happy with them. Located on Orchard Road. Prices were very reasonable too (coming from Australia).

Both my boys needed orthodontic work when we came here 5 yrs ago and I was quoted $12OOO, which was too much as I had limited insurance.I was told to go to National University Hospital down BeunoVista Rd. It was excellent. It cost $4000 for my oldest on level 1, and my younger son got onto the Post Grad list for trainee orthodontists, level 2, thank god as he was a nightmare, breaking his braces etc, and it cost only $2000 for top and bottom braces. He got excellent care, state of the art equpment, etc, plus he has had braces for 2 1/2 years at no extra cost, that includes tightening.The retainers were only $85 (Quoted $900 at Dental Excellence). My son needed super strong braces in the end too. They will not do anything extra to get money, or put braces on kids who are too young .Good luck

Try calling NTUC Denticare for their rates. They have a very good Orthodontist name Dr. Colin Ong. Great with kids.
NTUC Denticare has many branches other than Midpt Orchard. Check out their website. Cant recall what it quoted me for my son' braces - I think it was very clsoe to $4K. I know I currently pay SGD134 per visit to have the braces tghtened. Hope it helps.

whatever you do, do NOT go to Dr. Chua Ai Lian in Paragon. She's absolutely terrible. Since singapore's method of pyament is pay as you go without a fixed rate negotiated up front she will stretch out your treatment to ensure more visits and that she gets paid longer. The office may look posh but trusts me, I completely regretted going to her and broke my treatment off before it even finished because I knew I was being completely taken for a ride.

We used Catherine Lee at Camden Medical Centre. She is great, staff all very professional and will not do unnecessary work either. And we did pay the fixed price - not sure about previous comment saying ALL Singapore is pay as you go! Not in my experience anyway.
