So, this is such a safe city right? Well, I was walking through Istana Park at 8:40 on a Thursday night and got mugged. I was beaten up and my bag was stolen. Now when I tell people they still say: wow, I can't believe that happened...Singapore is such a SAFE city!
well, it can happen and it happened to me so don't be too blase about your safety!

Singapore is a RELATIVELY safe city with one of the lowest crime rates in the world. But it still has a crime rate. Don't confuse low crime with no crime. Sorry to hear it happened, but you're safe and that's most important.

Bruised and safe that is!

The chances of getting mugged here are probably lower than winning one of the many lucky draws.

Didn't you just read that from the side of a bus?

But correct anyway.

Yes, that is what it says on our condo gates as well. Low crime does not mean no crime and Singapore is a rich country with no real poverty but there will always be those who turn to crime to support themselves. And maybe not all are Singaporeans

That is as much a common misunderstanding as the fact that people think there is no crime in this city.

There is very real poverty in Singpaore. I know people who volunteer in programs that deliver meals to the poor. They were all shocked at the deplorable conditions some of these people live in, and they (the volunteers) are all Singaporean. No place is immune to poverty.

Better to say that Singapore is a very rich country with very little poverty. I am sure there is sum poverty but it is not widespread.

What about there is some wealth here, but not widespread.

This statement is the closest to the truth.

From SingStat:

2005 data:

Average Monthly Income from Work: $3500
Average Median Income from Work : $2410[/quote]

There is widespread wealth. You must stop looking at it thru European eyes. We are not European, we do not have the same infrastructure, we did not have the same time to develop.
