Singapore Expats

I managed to get a deal for dive trip and course. There are a few of us who are going away together, some leisure divers, some learning to dive. We are hoping to get more FUN people to join us! If you are FUN and talks alot, you are IN!

Most of the dive shops are charging $380-$400 for leisure dive and about $500 plus for dive course. I think!

The deal i managed to get is $320 including equipments for leisure dive and $390 including equipments for basic dive course. We will be going to puala aur, leaving friday night, returning sunday evening.

We are looking at either 12 -14 Oct or 19 - 21 Oct. Please leave your details or PM me if you are interested!

You might want to reconsider....

pulau aur only has a visibility of 5 m due to being the monsoon season...
so its going to be pretty dissapointing.

I suggest perhentian, visibility is 20m.. and lots of sharks around...
might be about 100 bucks more, but its definately worth it..

Thanks for the advice! But Perhantian is alot further... takes too much time to get there and back. We are changing the dates to Oct 5 - 7 instead, so should be able to avoid the monsoon.

In any case, most of us are leisure divers, who essentially just want a break from the "outside" world, over the weekend for a short vacation. Two of my frens are not diving, so they are just tagging along for some sun, beach and fresh air.

Sounds like a fun trip. would like to join. I'm by no means an expert diver, but I'm licensed and have done a bit of diving over the last years in relation to, eh, lets say various recreational trips....

Sorry to dissappoint you, but Perhentian is also in monsoon season in october.

In fact the whole east coast of West-Malaysia is.

Year around diving to be found at east coast Sabah: Mabul, Kapalai, Sipadan.

To OP: Which dive school will do the course if I may ask?

Set up a forum- am sure there are alot of interested divers here, I for one of them!

I don't wanna spoil your pleasure, it's your money after all, but Dolphin Scuba only does SSI registrations, as it is not a recognized and registered PADI diving center.

Meaning, since 90% of all divesites on this planet are PADI affiliated, you may find it hard to rent equipment when you go diving on other sites, where they do not accept SSI.

Again, I am not saying you should not do it, but PADI is the way to go, if you wanna do leisure diving on tropical sites.

Just my 2 cents!

Most of us are already certified divers, so it will be a leisure trip for us. I dont think it makes much difference if Dolphin is SSI or PADI certified.

No worries Psheep; I have SSI open water and YMCA divemaster and over the past 22 years have NEVER had any PADI center give me an ounce of trouble; not even a snide glance. I generally use my SSI card if asked for credentials, so it's not a matter of the level.

During the initial dive of every new trip, the dive guides treat everyone with equal skepticism regarding their skill regardless of which company you were certified by and even what level you are; basically, they will assume they need to babysit everyone. During the first couple of minutes of the dive, they will be able to start figuring out who they can give a bit more 'rope' and who they need to keep tucked under their wing.

If I was sure I would be around during that weekend, I would probably join. What is the latest someone can add their name to the reservation list?
