Singapore Expats

Hello. We are new to Singapore and I am looking for an affordable place for clothes for the kids (and myself)?!?! We moved from the USA and I am used to Target, TJ Max, Marshalls, Kohls, etc and I can't seem to find that sort of place here in Singapore. I live in the Orchard area, and I am not going to spend the $$ for kids clothing and shoes as in some of the malls around me. They grow out of it sooo quickly...

Any ideas of places to go, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Best to stock up when you are at home. Most kids clothes here, and adult too -- are either very high end, or very low end. Not much in between. The few US brands that are here are not the same sizing. If you get stuck -- try Robinsons or Tang's or Marks and Spencer. Also, LL Bean and Lands End delivers.

Around your area would be Robinson, John Little and OG for reasonable prices. Head north if you are also looking for other household and personal stuff besides clothes, there is a big Japanese department store that sells good quality everything for S$2 each, including some clothes.

Thank you for the advice, as we are going back to the US for Christmas so I will be sure to stock up then (if I can still find summer attire in December ).

I am a little leary of any clothing that will cost S$2...too good to be true?? Converted that is like US 50 cents!! I need it to last at least through constant washing/drying, but thank you for the recommendations!

I will check out the department stores you recommended.

Not 50 cents, check your math! Go on-line now and order some summer items on sale while/if you still can then ship to a neighbor. Good luck.

I was joking about the US dollar amount conversion-sorry I wasn't accurate (will use proper conversion next time)! That would be US $1.31, to be precise.

Great idea to order now and ship to neighbor-thank you. I am new to this whole thing.

You may also want to look at http://www.vpost.com.sg for transshipment as they have a way to save some of the shipping charges as they will us a US address and then bulk ship a large group of order together to take advantage of volume discounts.

im local but lived in the States before and i LOVED Target/ Ross dress for less/ nordstorm rack etc.. here there is a factory outlet below Le Meridien hotel "FOS". For kids clothes,the dept stalls with prices that wont give you a heart attack would be Bugis BHG? it used to be Seiyu.. Holland Village also has a small kids clothes outlet (there are other shops there with crazy prices too) i have also heard Shenton Way/ Raffles place has some shops with decent prices for baby/kids clothes, its to cater to working Mums who can shop during lunch! haven checked tat out but if you have time might want to go explore..

I don't know how old your kids are but personally I often buy my toddler's clothes when there are huge end-of-season sales when you can save up to 40% or more. I like Fox baby/kids and Pumpkin Patch. I sometimes buy the bigger sizes to stock up if I like the design. For yourself, Giordano could be good for basics. Do take advantage of the sales that we have herein Singapore so regularly!
