or go with VOIP. I use a VOIP system to ring the uk everyday for business. It costs me 1.5p minute (thats uk money) per minute whereas I used to pay 8p a minute when I was in the UK and I was only 40 miles or less from people. Go figure that one out... Oh yeah BT!! What an institution that is!!

Skype I use for video calling as skype to skype is free but you can also do phone chat aswell for free I think.

Other systems i think is MSN, ichat on a mac and many others.

Currently im using callback card.
Calling to UK is 10cts singapore currency flat rate. any options better then this?

I don't intend to buy a IP phone, and using skype is not that convenient for me as im always outdoors.

UKDesigner - I use Skype to call UK, and while calls to landlines are cheap, calls to mobile phone are extremely expensive - almost 10 times more than calling landlines. Do you have the same issue?

I only use skype for family stuff really. Video chat mainly. I use a VOIP system for my business. I set-up a local 0845 number in the UK so that my clients could call me very easily rather than trying to go through skype. It all came with the package and I think I only pay 7.5p a minute for calls to mobiles. Very cost effective, for me anyway. The company I used was German, typical German company, ultra efficient and very good quality so I can't complain. Have had very few problems and my clients are happy! What more could I ask for.

My folks live back in Northern Europe.

I have the telephone line that comes with the StarHub broadband and i think it's less that S$0.02/min but i need to double check that when i get back to SG.

I like Phoenix. Just got my bill today, and an hour's worth of calls to the US and Canada set me back under $3 this month. Per-minute rates to most places are around $0.05/min.

Starhub had (still has) IDD018 promotion for last two years with free idd to 18 countries including major ones like us, uk, canada, etc. when calling from mobile.

Of course, there's still mobile usage charges, but if you don't talk that much its very convenient

I used that for a while, but IIRC it only applies for the first ~6 months of your contract, and Phoenix is cheaper than 018's normal rates.

I'm using IDT asia. Very convenient and flat rate, something like 0.07$ per minute for Australia, USA Europe and some Asian countries.

we used phoenix comms and happy with the service & bill...nb: 1516

I used to use this.
You may want to try if it gives free call to your country.
