SIA pilots and stewardesses

hi
pls advise
my husband has passed the final interview for the sia pilot cadet program but i'm very uneasy about him accepting the offer.
some questions:
do the cabin crew and cock pit crew share the same hotel/accomodation?
- is it true that cabin crew used to stay at the same hotels but nowadays, cabin crew and cock pit crew stay at different hotels?
does the cabin crew mix around frequently with the cock pit crew?
is it true that it is common for air stewardesses to 'throw themselves' at the captains and 1st officers?
replies much appreciated.
thank you
Please don't make multiple postings of the same post it uses up space in the database. I have deleted your posting in the other thread.

Wildcherry,
From your post it is clear you don't altogether trust your husband and need to ask yourself a few questions since obviously you are concerned about the presence of other females being around him.
There is however some silliness in your post; while there are definitely affairs and romances between aircrew such events happen anywhere. Those stewardess's who 'throw themselves at the pilots' are, I'm sure not great in number. You might care to notice they are often young living at home or have boyfriends or husbands elsewhere. The crews may or may not mix with each other and that in some ways may or not be related to where they are at a particular time.
As for where they stay (please note my info is dated but is probably still true so any serving aircrew please throw in your 2 cents worth if you wish) the pilots usually stay in a different hotel although not always.

Grow up will you. I've been married to a pilot for over 25 years and I'm not a flight attendant either. I trust my husband and so should you. Yes, they stay at the same hotel and yes they may go out to dinner together as a crew, but what your husband does on his over nights, is up to him. If your marriage is stable and you trust one another, you won't have anything to worry about. Maybe your husband is wondering what his wife will be doing while he is away--works both ways.

hi all
thanks for all your input
actually, at 1st, i was all right with him being a pilot.
i even helped him for the interview preparations, and now i feel like i've stabbed myself in the back.
but my friend's an ex sia air stewardess, so she's seen 1st hand what we non crew people don't see.
she said of cos in cities and towns where there's lots of stuff to do, it's not as frequent but in places like maldives where there's nothing much to do, the crew starts to drink and 'have fun'.
she's seen a stewardess strip off her bottoms and climb onto a pilot just to tease him.
and other stuff.
of cos, i'm not just taking one person's words. i surfed around the web and read thru the blogs of crews. eg
https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogI ... 0372160800
and
http://behtong.blogspot.com
of cos, it's not that he will definitely be unfaithful but a pilot's gonna face much more temptation than the usual employee and yes, even if i trust him and this is the time where i can 'test' his fidelity, if i can avoid, i would rather avoid than having to put him to the test.
it's just like the reality show temptation island - i would rather not participate than participate and see him put to the test
crew and ex-crew, pilots and wives of pilots, your input pls. tk u

Hi wildcherry,
I totally agree with Matney and Lucille. In some countries, cock pit crew stay in the same hotel and in some countries they don't. Being accepted by the SIA pilot program, it also depends on which fleet he will be flying. eg. there will be a batch for SIA Cargo (747) and there will also be a batch for SIA Commerical & Silkair being trained together. And the training process is definately not easy and he will definately need alot of your support mentally as they will be facing a lot of stress.. Although they take in a lot of cadets, but the final figure of cadets being pass out as FO will depends on individual's performance too. Being together with a pilot, trust is the word. You have to trust your partner and support him.

It also depends on individual whether will they be influence and 'stray' too. 2 years of training is definately not short especially when they are send to Perth for their training for about 9 months. As his partner, you have to be strong and independent too.

The relationship between you and your partner will also grow together during his training.
Cheers,
Paige

While such things can and no doubt do happen having seen antics of not disimilar nature I think much of what you hear will be very much in the realms of fantasy. There will not be a great many who indulge in such behaviour, in fact if one was crass enough to assume most FA's were that inclined and behave in such a manner they are most likely get a slap in the 'chops' given the 'right' moment.
My advice, take it or leave it, forget about him, that would appear to be the guy who used to post here with the sole intention of advertising his website. His website is nothing more than a collection of articles and events that have most likely come off the web although he never identifies source. However, I have found some instance's he refers to which definitely did not happen on any plane he was on.

I am not sure there is much truth in this statement; they book on seperately, these days they are locked in the cockpit and are 'team players'. You may find their colleauges discourage inappropriate or irresponsible favour. Those pilots who happen to be lurking do come in and throw in your opinions - be nice to hear something from the 'horse's' mouth.

well, i dated a pilot once, though he is not from sia, he is a fighter pilot.. and he is based oversea.. i do love him alot and our r/s was pretty smooth.. but however eventually he did met another lady there and at first i was pretty mad about he falling for another gal and stuff but it was later that i realise the fault doesnt lies in him or the girl, it was me, i realise i wasnt as supportive as i was in the begining and i do believe i became very suspicious over little stuff which add alot of stress in him and thus causing my r/s to break..
well girl.. therefore dun go seeking for question or advise as to what other will or will not do.. if your husband love you, at the end he will still return to him, no doubt i dun deny that guy tend to stray but all they really need is our love, support and trust.

hi again
or maybe i'll post the questions here:
1) Yes, he did tell me that for sia cargo, the flights are long-haul too,
hence i was thinking,
could he request for silkair instead of sia upfront at the point of offer?
one of my pilot cadet friends told me mgmt will try to place the married ones in silkair as well as they want to avoid those with potential marital problems to be on long haul flights for the safety of passangers.
2) He told me he'll still be 50% of the time in sg. Is that true?
3) will he be away from sg each time max 3 days or it could be up to 1 wk?
4) this sounds tough but whats the estimated ratio like between married pilots who cheat and married pilots who have been faithful?
frankly, although we've known each other since uni (abt 8 yrs), i wouldn't know what's he'll be like in this setting as people change and they put on different 'faces' in different situations/environments.
Moreover, he's from engineering so i've never had to go though a phase where he's surrounded by beautiful gals. in uni, his school mates were mostly guys. even if there were girls, they are just the intellectual type u see around engineering faculty. similar, he's been working in a male dominated software company since grad.
many ask me it really boils down to the type of person he is. frankly, i wdn't know what type of person he'll be in such a different 'setting'.
i do know however that humans are animals with animal instincts and men are polygamous by nature...

I'll answer these questions here as it may be useful info for others.
1) You can request for Silkair. This would mean that he would have to reject offers from SIA and Cargo until Silkair decides they want to take in cadets for that batch. I'm not sure that they will appreciate repeated rejects so attempt at your own (or in this case your husband's) risk. I've heard of guys rejecting Cargo in hopes of SIA only to get offered Cargo again in the next batch of cadets. And I've never heard of anyone rejecting more than once.
I've also not heard of placement of pilots into SIA or Silkair based on marital status. Plenty of stewardesses on either airline and nightstops will not make much difference.
2) Well, thereabouts i guess, I don't really pay attention to that much.
3) Depends. Are you talking about SIA, Silkair or cargo? For SIA, anything from turnarounds to 7-8 days away from home.
4) Can't imagine how anyone can get their hands on that information. I myself would like to know. For research, of course.

SIA cargo is now independant and they do not receive new batch of cadets already. i was told that they have been made a separate department for now. those who were previously trained under cargo have all done their conversion into the main fleet, flying the 777 and some on the 747. a genuine source from a person who went through it.
